Editorial reviews

Poised to give a command performance at the White House, The Lazara Quartet have fired their violinist, Dorian, whose frequent quarrels with his lover and the quartet's first violinist, Elliot, have resulted in erratic behavior. As the remaining musicians take a chance on gifted but inexperienced Grace, the cast of actors, which includes Jonathan Adams and Jere Burns, draws a line as taut as a violin string between tension and humor. As Grace, Liza Weil has a slight tremor in her voice that betrays her uncertainty as the other actors swirl around her, sniping at each other with the affection and resentment of people who have known, loved, and hated each other for years.

Publisher's Summary

In Michael Hollinger’s look at the discordant backstage world of classical music, The Lazara Quartet has just fired one of its members, and his replacement is wary of the group’s reputation for personal, violent quarrels. And as they prepare for a command performance at the White House, they’re haunted by their former colleague’s sudden disappearance.
