While the storyline and characters are predictable, certain twists and the ending really leave you wanting more.

This was an easy read, nice story, engaging enough. But it’s alot of tell writing rather than showing, the main character is constantly telling you what’s happening and her changing thought every paragraph which makes it hard to stay immersed in any action going on. The ending intrigues enough to read the sequel but definitely expected more.

Beautifully enchanting adventure

It took me a bit to get into this story, but I think it was more me and not the book itself - My mind was firmly fixed on the notion of a story in the Caraval universe being about Scarlett and Tella, so introducing a new focus point was jolting to me. Also.... I'll admit I crave more of Julian and Scarlett!!!!
And at first I was a bit put off by Evangeline pining over Luke (I'm not really sure why, I think I thought it would make her a one dimensional character?). But I soon warmed to Evangeline. And I was hoping that Garber would come through with her beautiful story telling. I'm so glad she came through!!

I’d recommend this to anyone who loves a renaissance vibe, with powers and a different land of magic. Super cool concept, read it completely in 3 days! Couldn’t put it down ☺️
