Publisher's Summary

How far would you go for happily ever after?

From the number one Sunday Times best-selling author of the Caraval series, the first book in a new series about love, curses and the lengths that people will go to for happily ever after.

For as long as she can remember, Evangeline Fox has believed in happily-ever-after. Until she learns that the love of her life is about to marry another and her dreams are shattered.

Desperate to stop the wedding and heal her wounded heart, Evangeline strikes a deal with the charismatic, but wicked, Prince of Hearts. In exchange for his help, he asks for three kisses, to be given at the time and place of his choosing.

But after Evangeline's first promised kiss, she learns that bargaining with an immortal is a dangerous game - and that the Prince of Hearts wants far more from her than she pledged. He has plans for Evangeline, plans that will either end in the greatest happily ever after, or the most exquisite tragedy....

Spellbinding!

It took me a bit to get into this story, but I think it was more me and not the book itself - My mind was firmly fixed on the notion of a story in the Caraval universe being about Scarlett and Tella, so introducing a new focus point was jolting to me. Also.... I'll admit I crave more of Julian and Scarlett!!!!
And at first I was a bit put off by Evangeline pining over Luke (I'm not really sure why, I think I thought it would make her a one dimensional character?). But I soon warmed to Evangeline. And I was hoping that Garber would come through with her beautiful story telling. I'm so glad she came through!!

Good all rounder

I’m not into the fantasy genre but I enjoyed this. The fantasy stuff was written well so I didn’t lose track or get confused. Great story line and intriguing. Lots of twists and turns.

I Dont get the hype

based on other reviews I thought this would be an incredible book, but it was passable at best. I couldn't even find myself rooting for any of the characters because I couldn't get interested..

Meh, boring

A failed tiktok recommendation. This book is boooooooring indeed. Not in a good cosy kind of palette cleanser book kind of way. It's a “I already forgot the storyline and I finished this book a week ago” kind of way. So many inconsistencies.

waste of a credit

no problem with the narrator just wondered how they didn't shoot themself reading this boring garbage.

Characters have no depth at all that I can't even remember their names.

There's no clear plot, a lot of info dumping, a wattpad mc with unusual hair, the power to do xyz and is apart of a prophecy wow.

Vampires were added for the sake of vampires and honestly was the worst part of the story because MCs naivety has no bounds.

Boring

Great for 10 year olds… anyone older shouldn’t bother. Narrator did a good job with what she had to work with

Well Narrated

fans of the Mortal Instruments series will probably enjoy this :)

A little too much brooding romance in this for me, but it was well read. The world building is left to a minimum, I want to know more about this world.

Anticlimactic

This story started off promising, but after the first few chapters, it became boring. the protagonist is so fixated on falling in love that there isn't really much else to her (minus the prophecy). Her thoughts are stale and repetitive which makes the story also feel that way. The time wasted on repeatedly describing her feelings should have been used to inject more action/tension into the story. I don't think I'll finish this. Jax had so much more potential that'll he has been afforded.

Story ruined by the narrator

I know I’m in the minority here, but I really don’t think this should be advertised as a YA -it reads much more like a children’s book and would be more suitable to 13-year olds. I really struggled with the narrator, she makes both MCs sound infantile and chronically sarcastic or irritated, even when they shouldn’t be. I had to go back to the written book to finish it, and even then I found the story definitely wasn’t for me.

👍

It's my fault for reading this when I'm in my dark romance era, knowing this is not it. But hey I was pleasantly surprised. The story and performance is great. Just a little mild for me. The younger me would have loved this.

Finnished this book in two days. The narrator was great at sounding as different characters. Stephanie Garber never disapoints.

Had to get book 2 ...

although at times, the female lead at times, came across a bit annoying to me.( not sure if that was in the narration rather than story) I can't help recognise a good story. when you finish and go directly for the next book because ... how dare you end it there! and then you listen to the next book in a weekend.
I manage to love and dislike these characters in equal measure. it propels me on to see if they will be the villan or the hero.

Loved the story and the performance brought it to life.
Full of magic that reminds me of the fairytales I used to read as a kid.
