Publisher's Summary

Inti Flynn arrives in Scotland with her twin sister, Aggie, to lead a team of biologists tasked with reintroducing 14 grey wolves into the remote Highlands. She hopes to heal not only the dying landscape, but Aggie, too, unmade by the terrible secrets that drove the sisters out of Alaska.

Inti is not the woman she once was, either, changed by the harm she's witnessed - inflicted by humans on both the wild and each other. Yet as the wolves surprise everyone by thriving, Inti begins to let her guard down, even opening herself up to the possibility of love. But when a farmer is mauled to death, Inti knows where the town will lay blame. Unable to accept her wolves could be responsible, she makes a reckless decision to protect them. But if the wolves didn't make the kill, then is something more sinister at play?

Once There Were Wolves is the unforgettable story of a woman desperate to save the creatures she loves - if she isn't consumed by a wild that was once her refuge.

Beautiful !!

This is a fantastic beautifully written story with so many great themes woven through it. The wolves, the wilds of Scotland, murder, family love and courage. Brought tears to my eyes and a yearning to be in nature. Great narration.
Very satisfying.

Harrowing but stunning...

Fantastic narration...as an animal lover, this story was a powerful insight into the lives of wolves. Touching but harrowing take on sisterhood and what it means to love unconditionally. Definately worth the read...it will stay with me....

Enjoyable

Very enjoyable audiobook. Well read and easy enough to keep track of the characters — although I kept getting my Duncans mixed up with my Dougals and Douglases. Nice to be in the Scottish highlands.

wild

I loved the flow of script, the painting of the scenery without to many abstract adjectives. it was so visceral and intimate.

Breathtaking

Ordinarily I wouldn't have picked a story like this but it was a bookclub choice and I am so glad it was.

The story was atmospheric, haunting, palpable, sad but heart-warming all in one. I can't think of many books that have brought a tear to my eye, but this one did - twice!

Great listen!

I loved this book. It was a great mix of fragility, raw clashes with nature and the exploration of how the human animal is the most volatile predator that roams this earth. The language captures the imagination straight away and kept me mesmerized throughout. Great performance.

swept into a world of emotion.

This story is made so beautiful and raw by saskias perfect narration.

I've listened a few times to this story. I would find holes to poke had I physically read the book first. however I find this to be by far my best audible experience.

it is brutal and harsh but also juxtaposed with soft warmth and heart. I loved the way the story entraps you with excitement and fear but also love and happiness.
