Story
Think you know the person you’re married to? Think again. The Glasgow Fair weekend was usually the busiest of the year for the Serious Crime Division. But by the Sunday morning, it appeared to have gone off without a major hitch. Then DCI Dani Bevan received a call from one of her team. A middle-aged man had gone missing from his home in Giffnock. Dani didn’t take the case too seriously, until it turned out that the uncle of her friend, DC Andy Calder, disappeared under identical circumstances a decade before.

Story
The charred remains of an elderly woman are discovered in a burned-out gamekeeper's cottage, hidden away in woodland to the west of Edinburgh. Clearly no accidental fire, Detective Inspector Tony McLean suspects that neither is this simply a grim arson attack. There is far more to the victim than her humble surroundings might suggest, and something ritualistic to her horrific murder. Nor will it be the only case of death by fire that Tony and his team will be faced with. This is only the beginning, and with such evil clouding the air, Tony begins to wonder what else will burn....

Just Brilliant
This is my new favourite series, DCI Dani Bevan is very personable and I always enjoy David Monteath's narrations. I have found this series enjoyable and entertaining and have been been relieved that the violence has been kept to a minimum. I eagerly await the arrival of the next book in the series.

Dull
This book started off well but went slowly downhill as the story enfolded and turned out to be about the personal lives of the characters rather than a crime story. I lost interest and didn't finish it.
