About this listen

When Lady Margaret Blake and her sister lose their parents in a boating accident, they are left to the guardianship of their uncle. Disregarding their feelings for the price their beauty will fetch on the Marriage Mart, he arranges a match for both. Lady Margaret, however, has her own views on the matter and takes her fate into her own hands.

Returning home after war to assume his responsibilities, Luke, Duke of Waverley, expects a nice, quiet life on his country estate. Within hours of stepping foot in England, though, he stumbles upon a young woman being attacked, and no sooner does he rescue her than she runs away. His sense of curiosity is piqued and his sense of honor compels him to help her, leading him on a merry chase . . . Meg escapes the marriage, only to find herself at the mercy of others. Fortunately, in the soldier she cannot avoid, she also finds herself in very capable hands. Only her uncle has a deeper reason for his actions and will stop at nothing to see his plans fulfilled.

This is the 2nd Elizabeth johns book I have listened to. This one is infinitely better than "The Duke of knight". Still I will only listen to her books available in the plus catalogue, I wouldn't waste a credit. I am not that impressed.

Alex Wyndham is a great narrator however he does read super fast.. I slow him down to 0.85 for a more comfortable listen. 😊

Not a bad tale, well read

I found that the love story was more of a sub plot which would be fine if it wasn’t a romance! and I found the heroin plain and uninteresting. I did like the adventure but THEY ONLY HAVE LIKE TWO CONVERSATIONS AND SHE SAYS “ I’m half in love with him” WHAT? You don’t even know him . Sorry for ranting but if you don’t have audible plus I would say it’s not worth the money

Boring

It didn’t live up to the early promise. As seems usual in most of these period romances everyone is incredibly good looking, there is not very compelling instalove, & there is a lot of repetitive internal monologuing to make sure you understand the main characters motivations. Trying to explain their poor choices! Not as bad as some but the unlikely plot twists in the second half really didn’t help me enjoy it. I also rarely like men doing female characters and this is no exception!

A good start to an OK book

Lovely clean romance with a good story, not just a romance. My firs book by Elizabeth Johns and I am happy and will follow more of her book.
New to Alex Wyndham as narrator - found him good to listen to

I'm not usually one to post negative reviews, but I feel this one needs it.
This story is very much a case of an American writer not understanding the country and time they are writing about. unfortunately so many errors in language and general behavior of the characters.
this normally wouldn't feel too much of an issue if the plot wasn't so flat.
Then unfortunately they choose the wrong narrator. his voice didn't match the time or characters. it also felt like he was reading a book in al classroom, no life to it.
it's a pity because he is a good narrator, but this wasn't the book for him.
individually each part might work but as a collective they dont

wrong narrator
