"Oliver Twist" ist ein Hörbuch der Überraschungen und Wendungen, die Personen und Teilhandlungen sind kreuz und quer verknüpft - das ist große Dramaturgie. Die Personen sind klar gezeichnet und haben ihren Charakter. Da ist Oliver selbst, der unter schlimmsten Umständen die Ehre seiner Mutter verteidigt, da ist Nancy, eine sehr starke Frauenfigur, da sind die "Bösen", in denen sich oft noch ein wenig Gutes findet. Es ist auch ein Hörbuch der Moral - die Gier nach Reichtum geht quer durch die Gesellschaftsschichten. Und es zeigt die Kinder als die Verlierer in einem System, das deren Missbrauch nicht verhindern kann. Verhältnisse, die wir hier nicht mehr kennen, die es aber noch heute in vielen Teilen der Welt gibt.
