Er wurde in der Reihe "Karl May's Gesammelte Reiseromane" vom Verlag Friedrich Ernst Fehsenfeld, Freiburg i. Br., als Band Nummer 14 erstmals veröffentlicht. - 1909 erschien eine illustrierte Ausgabe mit Bildern von Claus Bergen.
