Publisher's Summary

After trading the barracks for a fixer-upper rental, Navy SEAL Zack Nelson wants peace, not a roommate - especially not Pike, who sees things about Zack he most wants to hide. Pike's flirting puts virgin Zack on edge. And the questions Pike's arrival would spark from Zack's teammates about his own sexuality? Nope. Not going there. But Zack can't refuse.

Pike Reynolds knows there won't be a warm welcome in his new home. What can he say? He's an acquired taste. But he needs this chance to get his life together. Also, teasing the uptight SEAL will be hella fun. Still, Pike has to tread carefully; he's had his fill of tourists in the past, and he can't risk his heart on another, not even one as hot, as built - and, okay, yeah, as adorable - as Zack.

Living with Pike crumbles Zack's restraint and fuels his curiosity. He discovers how well they fit together in bed...in the shower...in the hallway...He needs Pike more than he could have imagined, yet he doesn't know how to be the man Pike deserves.

Critic Reviews

"Narrator Tyler Stevens captures Zack's agonizing dilemma as he wavers between coming out and bowing to family expectations. He voices Zack as a tough SEAL who struggles with his emotions. Pike comes across as a confident flirt with an unspoken fear of getting hurt. Stevens uses a slightly higher register for Pike and a vulnerable gruffness for Zack, which works well in their dialogue and bedroom scenes. Secondary characters from Zack's military and Pike's academic circles are differentiated and memorable. Stevens makes their courtship sweet and sexy." ( AudioFile)

A heart wrenching story of over coming out

I enjoyed this story very much and at times held back tears of joy as the story twisted and turned for the fighting about mens feelings and love for team mates and themselves to hide ones sexuality. Friendship along with companionship in the beginning brought togetherness. After being in a long term relationship I can understand many of their emotional feelings of building a relationship and the struggle of keeping it together from the extreme peer pressure around them. A beautiful story and I rate it 5 stars.

Thank you for the pleasure of listening to the love story between two beautiful men and how their emotions in the end created a strong bond of love for each other and lasting togetherness.

Great

This was a great book, at least for me. I can relate to so much to both characters. I'll admit, it was a little tough to get into at the very beginning. However, I kept listening and I am glad that I did.

Off Base

the story line is believable and has a credible story line. The characters are well developed and the narrator has an even flow of reading. I've heard several stories narrated by Stevens and enjoy what he puts into his reading.
I would definitely recommend this story for all gay romance readers.

not the best

this book is my least favorite of the series, first I started off with book 2 then 3 those where great but this one was lacking in a way I can't put into words, I just wasn't invested in these characters. if you are new to this series don't read this one first.

really very nice

this series I really liked. I had started with the last book in the Gaymers series "Connection Error". You will need that one to know what some of the characters are. I can not wait till the next book in this series.

Great narration and written well

I really liked the characters but I just can't read/listen to anymore closeted male books. The writing was good, the dialog was real, and there were some very sweet moments. The love scenes were sexy and sweet.

Really like this series

I really enjoyed reading this series, more than I thought I would, now enjoying listening. This is a surprisingly good coming out story, with engaging characters and a more or less realistic storyline. Zack's fear of coming out and its consequences could have been better and more deeply expressed, especially in Zack's experience with his parents, though considering the probable strictures of the format and the focus of the story, it was handled quite well despite its only being lightly examined.

The narration by Tyler Stevens was quite good as well, though I didn't particularly care for the voice he gave to Apollo. Was that a hint of Brooklyn I heard in the voice of a native Californian of Greek heritage? Oh, well. Not enough of a foible to take away a star. The story was otherwise read quite well. All in all, a good listen.

Great start to the series

By now I've read and listened to this several times. This is my favorite series by Annabeth Albert by far. Great start to the series. If you like military romance this is a book for you and even if not give it a try because the writing is great.

bloody LOVED this book!

I lovefinding new to me authors, and narrators and Ms Albert and Mr Stevens are bothnew to me! Zach ishiding himself, from his fellow SEALs, his family but most of all his hidingfrom himself. Moving off base seems to be the best solution but then his worstnightmare needs a place to stay and Zach can’t say no to Pike, and Pike’s cats. So, he grits his teeth and bares it. Pike, however, is gritting his teeth foran entirely different reason. He has a massive crush on Zach but can’t let Zachknow. The two men call an uneasy truce to do up the house, but neither can stayaway from the other for long. That stayingaway lasts only so long and it really was a joy to behold to watch Zach andPike get closer, and begin their friends with benefits thing, but it was alsopainful. Both men knew they shouldn’t do this, and it messed with everyone’s head, mine included! Zach is verymuch in the closet, and Pike is not. That alone causes Zach to have kittensabout every.single.little.thing! Everything, near the beginning, caused Zach topanic, but watching the man fall, watching him come out of himself and thatcloset, watching him fall in love with Pike?? Twas a beautiful thing!I loved thatit was ZACH who made the decision to do something about their situation, andPike did not push Zach, even though he really wanted to.Much of thatbeauty though, is in the delivery, and Tyler Stevens narrates. This is thefirst of his work I have come across and I need more, lots more! I loved thenarration, as much as the story itself! Stevens wasable to wrench so much emotion, particularly for Zach, into his narration, itwas almost listening to your best friend pour their heart out to you.The voicesfor Zach and Pike are very different, getting the point across about the manydifferences between the two men. ALL the voices are distinctive enough for meto not have any trouble with multi person conversations. Stevens reading voiceis deep and clear and very VERY easy to listen to.Someinteresting characters in the book, Ryan and Josiah (apologies if that’s nothow you spell, I’ve not seen it written down!) do they have a book?? Would LOVEto read or listen to their story! And Apollo. That man is sad, it’s too soon, but maybe, just maybe. . . .and OH!! His book is next! I just looked!I have booktwo to listen to next, but that is by a different narrator so it will be interestingto see how Apollo’s voice carries from one narrator to the next. 5 stars forthe book5 stars forthe narration5 starsoverall**sameworded review will appear elsewhere**

Not impressed

I'm not sure why I didn't like such a popular novel. Was the narrator lacking? I thought the story not original and the language often cheesy. On top of that, I find it hard to believe that a Seal can't handle a bully. It was hard to finish this one.
