Drifters in search of work, George and his simple-minded friend Lennie, have nothing in the world except each other - and a dream. A dream that one day they will have some land of their own. Eventually they find work on a ranch, but their hopes are doomed as Lennie - struggling against extreme cruelty, misunderstanding and jealousy - becomes a victim of his own strength.

Tackling universal themes, friendship and a shared vision, and giving a voice to America's lonely and dispossesed, OF MICE AND MEN remains Steinbeck's most popular work.

Was a short novella but it was really good and every part of it all matters. Crazy that it was written so long ago!

Not a dull moment

I simply loved this book.

Short simple story but conveyed so much. I really enjoyed it.

Even though I knew they would probably never get their own plot of land, you still hoped for them.

The ending was so Sad.

I did this book as a mature age student in English class. (now 73)
it took me back into that class. I feel the movie was longer than the book, but it was still great to listen to.

Great listening.

While this is an engaging and interesting story of the relationships between men on a ranch in Depression-era California, be aware of the language that is used by the author. The book is a piece of its time and therefore uses language that is no longer accepted.

Compelling story but beware of language
