About this listen

A gripping first-hand account from inside the halls of Congress as Donald Trump and his enablers betrayed the American people and the Constitution-leading to the violent attack on the Capitol on 6th January 2021-by the House Republican leader who dared to stand up to it.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the US Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on the Capitol.

Liz Cheney, one of the few Republican officials to take a stand against these efforts, witnessed the attack first-hand, and then helped lead the Congressional Select Committee investigation into how it happened. In Oath and Honor, she tells the story of this perilous moment in US history, those who helped Trump spread the stolen election lie, those whose actions preserved the constitutional framework, and the risks the US faces and the worldwide implications.©2023 Liz Cheney

Critic Reviews

a scathing portrait of the Republican Party ... an unflinching account ... Drawing from real time text messages, emails, calls and meetings, as well as personal conversations, Cheney calls out her Republican colleagues as hypocrites - who knew Trump lost but did his bidding anyway - and says their complicity is a threat to democracy. (CNN)
Chilling reading (Guardian)
Cheney offers scathing portraits of colleagues she holds in utter contempt. (Washington Post)
Liz Cheney calls out Trump and his cronies with bracing candor ... Without a doubt, the nation owes a debt to Liz Cheney, whose new memoir, Oath and Honor, rocketed to the top of the bestseller lists this week. (Slate)
An earnest dissection of the threat Trump poses to our democracy. (Kirkus)
In her willingness to throw herself in between our democracy and the narcissist that ate her party, Liz Cheney is sitting on America's side . . . (Melinda Hennenberger, Kansas City Star)
Watching Cheney is a reminder that courage matters in politics. (David Ignatius, Washington Post)
Former United States Rep. Liz Cheney's new book, Oath and Honor, is a tour de force. The Wyoming Republican presents a fact-heavy account of former President Donald Trump's dishonest and dangerous attempt to steal the 2020 election. (Quin Hillyer, Washington Examiner)
Liz Cheney's book is a call to arms for every citizen to fight for this nation and democracy, and it is a warning to her Republican colleagues who are still defending the indefensible. (Steve Nolan, Bucks County Beacon)

Liz has put together this incredible book relating to the tragedy of the attack on Capitol Hill with concrete evidence and testimony to support that at the end of the day this event started and ended with Donald Trump. Her descriptions of her experience on Capitol Hill and the ensuing hearings of the Jan 6 Committee (of which she was Vice Chair) are cogent, detailed and compelling, her respect and defence of the US Constitution unshakable. I am very impressed with her commitment to the rule of law, and her willingness to work with the other side of the aisle to fight back against what happened on that day by working hard to hold those responsible to account in court. She outlines clearly how Donald Trump has been a threat to the law, order and safety of the people of the USA, and will be once again if he is voted back in. Good to know there are honest people in the Republican party who aren’t simply puppets to the Master, and actually uphold their oath to their country.

An Honest Republican

An amazing book. As an Australian I have really enjoyed listening to Liz Cheney and her succinct and moving true story of the politics of the modern USA. I sincerely hope many people read this book and listen to what she has to say about the Republican Party and Trump.
May he never return to the White House.

An Eye opener

Liz writes and narrates this important story with great passion and candour. It is largely thanks to her and Adam Kinsinger that we were able to uncover much of the truth. Their willingness and courage to put country ahead of party cannot be understated. It is important to remember that the majority of testimonies given to the Jan 6 Committee were actually by fellow republicans and not, as many assume, by democrats sticking the boot in. I can only hope that the majority of Americans will see Trump and his cronies for the deplorable crooks they are.

Fantastic recount of a moment in history that will forever change politics in the United States.

I watched the January 6th Committee Enquiry and it was very interesting to hear the behind-the-scenes work put in. Not an easy job but a job well done.
