One day can change a person’s life forever.

Alissa anticipated a normal shift at Mass General Hospital until the zombie outbreak spread through Boston like wildfire. When patients and staff in the ER begin to die, reanimate, and attack the living, Alissa must fight her way to safety to avoid becoming one of the ravenous hordes. To survive, Alissa must develop instincts and skills she did not realize she had and overcome fears no human were meant to face. Escaping the hospital will be tough enough, but can Alissa survive the nightmare gripping Boston and make it out of the city to safety?

Good read

Zombie tale of a nurse escaping Boston. Fast paced, likable characters. Starts out different with MC leaving many behind but justified.

Nurse Alissa vs. the Zombies

I really enjoyed this short story about a nurse trying to survive the first days of the zombie apocalypse. The story is well written by Scott M. Baker and Naomi Rose-Mock did a good job narrating. I look forward to the next book in this series being available by Audible! I am going to re-listen now because I did like it so much!

Nurse needs some Life Support

NAVTZ is an action packed, thrill ride that starts off weak, but gets better as it goes on. Given the hype and large numbers of good reviews of this book I expected more than standard fare. The first part of the book covers the outbreak from the perspective of Alissa, an ER nurse, who witnesses her hospital under siege. Lots of action but not a lot of it makes sense. Within minutes of the outbreak she has somehow figured out that this is a plague of world ending proportions. There is even a common name for the things (Deaders) that everyone (within 20 minutes) spontaneously starts using.

Very shortly after the outbreak in the ER she (with no additional evidence or information) abandons her colleagues and patients to die, murders a surgery patient (rather than leave him behind), and becomes a marksman with a pistol. She then goes around shooting people in the head (who, yes, are Deaders but she has no way to know that at the time). In the middle of the chaos and after ditching everyone else to escape, she stops to help a doctor take several vials of blood (foreshadowing?). You can guess from the name of the book that she does escape the hospital. After that, the book is mostly about her escape and evasion to get home and rescue her cat.

If you can get to this part, the rest gets better. Once she gets out on the street things get more interesting and plausible. Baker seems to know the city and does a good job describing places, streets, buildings, etc as Alissa makes her way off the island and back towards home. Her encounters with authorities, other survivors and the Deaders keep things exciting. At several points she cries and emotes over what she had to do to survive. She later confesses it all to a policeman who tells her she did the right thing, though at the time he has no reason to believe things are as bad as she says.

I usually enjoy Naomi Rose-Mock's narration of Audible books but she reads the first half of NAVTZ like a grocery list. Later on she starts to warm up to the characters and it gets better.

Overall its an average zombie book that is fun if you are just looking for a shallow thrill.

Well done.

It was worth the wait Scott, a story well written. You added more visceral details that a lot of people overlook a most of the time. I look forward to the next one being on Audible. The narrator did a great job too, a little slow for my taste but a small tweak of the playback options kept it up to speed with my ADHD. 5 STARS.

Pleasantly surprised

I got this audio book in exchange for a review, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I love zomboc with a passion having listened to many different authors and books, and it's always with a sense of trepidation that I start a new author, wondering what the book/narrator will be like. I wasn't disappointed at all, except when it finished rather abruptly, more please, Scott M Baker. The action was gory and fast paced, just how I love it, with no moody teens weeping and wailing. The narration was excellent.

Non Stop Action

From beginning of the book poor Nurse Alissa is thrown into the action. I felt so anxious while reading this book, in a good way. I keep wondering when she would catch a break and get a breather!! The book was very exciting to read and the story line is a great one. I can't wait to read what will happen next. Although I am scared by the Author's note about his characters because we hate to lose the ones we love!

Naomi Rose-Mock did an excellent job narrating and her accents were spot on.
