About this listen

A forbidden, secret affair proves that all's fair in love and science - from Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author Ali Hazelwood.

Rue Siebert might not have it all, but she has enough: a few friends she can always count on; the financial stability she yearned for as a kid; and a successful career as a biotech engineer at Kline, one of the most promising start-ups in the field of food science. Her world is stable, pleasant, and hard-fought. Until a hostile takeover and its offensively attractive front man threatens to bring it all crumbling down.

Eli Killgore and his business partners want Kline, period. Eli has his own reasons for pushing this deal through - and he's a man who gets what he wants. With one burning exception: Rue. The woman he can't stop thinking about. The woman who's off-limits to him.

Torn between loyalty and an undeniable attraction, Rue and Eli throw caution out the lab and the boardroom windows. Their affair is secret, no-strings-attached, and has a built-in deadline: the day one of their companies will prevail. But the heart is risky business - one that plays for keeps.

Although I still very much enjoyed this book I felt that Love on the brain and Love hypothesis were a much getter read. I would still recommend though 😊

An easy read

Rue is so autistic/CPTSD coded and I adore it. I love the character development. I read this book in one whole day and honestly, I found this book hilarious. I genuinely don’t know why the author note said it wasn’t a romcon because the snarky comments and blunt retorts were so hilarious. Plus not only is the delivery of some of the jokes brilliant the ML VA is so bloody hot!! (spoiler alert below)

I mean come on, within his proposal he mentions but plugs and the long con. This book had me snorting. I need to know if Hark ever has is happy ending!!

Loved it!

I did struggle to get into this book at the start, I don’t think it was the fault of the author I think I am very different from the main character Rue and that made it hard to become emotionally involved in her life. I do think that is book doesn’t subscribe to the normal romance genre and more specifically the typical gender rolls we expect from men and women in the dating scene. I think this book also has an underlying theme of neurodivergence which is also something that is not featured a lot in the romance scene.
Like any Ali Hazlewood books I found my self throughly drawn in by the end and wanting to hear more about their story.
While this book wasn’t written for me (as in I could not relate to Rue) I think there will be others who may not relate to most contemporary romance that will relate closely to Rue. Which is why I consider this an invaluable novel to have in your collection.

Not written for me but a fantastic story!

This one was a little different to Ali’s books that I’ve previously read and I absolutely loved it. I really liked that it was grittier and the characters had more emotional baggage. The way the couple came together was a nice change also
