An epic story, that possibly attempted too much and some of the secondary characters could have been fleshed out a bit more. Similar to Taipan, natural disasters were used to close off storyline’s that deserved a more substantial
I was a bit put off by the frequent and almost perverted references to females that didn’t seem necessary. Clavell is excellent as an adventure and dramatic writer but attempts at love, romance or sex, all fell short in my opinion.

This is a great book, well written by James Clavell. But as an audible book it is ruined by the Narrator who has a monotonous voice, droning on hour after hour, all the Characters sounded the same.
I would love to hear it done better.

Possibly the best of the series. A bit dated but how Clavell predicted the future with the demise of soviet Russia and the rise of the Middle Kingdom. Being the only civilized culture in the world we now face the hegemony Of the PRC and world domination by Xu Xinping.. The decline of the west and Trump ‘s presidency we now face an uncertain future
