Publisher's Summary

Nate Temple has an appointment in Hell. One he can’t reschedule…

After recent events, Nate took some much-deserved time off for a little rest and relaxation. But when he finally returns home to attend what should have been a celebration of love, he finds insidious fear infecting the streets of St. Louis.

Paranoia. Chaos. Anarchy. It seems every supernatural family in town is sick and tired of Nate and wants to put him in his place. The worst part… all his friends seem to agree.

With everyone else fighting to prevent war between the families, Nate takes two of his scariest friends on a walk down that famous path paved with good intentions - to those eternal pits of despair - so he can finally demand some real answers from his parents.

He definitely never thought his actions could make Hell any worse than it already was…

If you like Jim Butcher, Kevin Hearne, Steve McHugh, Michael Anderle, Ilona Andrews, Patricia Briggs, Shannon Mayer, or K.F. Breene, you will LOVE the ninth installment of the Temple Chronicles.

To Hell and back

Nate goes on a whirlwind mission after feeling like he was being left behind by so many he's helped in the past.

The story seemed to move slowly in the beginning but as it continued, the realization that this book is setting up for some major power plays and confrontations. Shayne once again gives enough to keep you wanting MORE.

It’s okay, definitely the weakest one

LOVE Joel Richards, he is these characters. I hope they contract him for all future Nate Temple books!

I’ve listened to every book in the series, minus the short story. I know going to hell should have been more exciting, it lacked the build up in my opinion. I almost feel like the book was rushed maybe? I enjoyed it still, I would listen to it again, cause it captures more of a normal everyday life, Gunner getting married and all that. The part in hell definitely felt rushed. I would have thought it would have taken up more time, but you don’t really get enough time to feel sorry for him or worry how Nate will get out of this predicament. I thought it was a good book still, but just missed its suspenseful build up, and feels like a hurried ending. One weak book out of the entire chronicle won’t keep me away. I will be looking for the next one!

This one went to hell and then some

Took much dialogue, teenage humor and emotional angst in this one. Nate needs to get some counseling and grow a pair. The author needs to reminded a book has many parts and interests that need continuity.
Not the best of the series but who knows maybe the next one will be written with a plot and structure like the past ones.

Great Narrator but Terrible Story

This series started off with so much great potential but these past few books have been awful. This being the worst of the bunch so far. Nate Temple is just a petulant crybaby rich boy who throws temper tantrums whenever he isn't the center of the universe. And the worst part about it is that everyone else in the book is so subservient to him despite claiming that they need to distance themselves from him. 2 characters literally jump at the chance to sacrifice themselves to save him from having to own up to his own mistakes. And that's what bothers me the most about this series, he doesn't take accountability for anything! He just let's everyone else clean up his mess after he reaps all the rewards. It's like he has an army of simps backing him up that are proud to lick his boots and even thank him for it. Spoilers below

At one point I actually had a change of heart because when Talon and Carl try to sacrifice themselves Nate actually steps up and accepts his sentence rather than let someone else pay for his arrogance. But lo and behold just like every other book in the series being literally trapped in Hell is nothing but a minor inconvenience. Being sentenced to live out the rest of his life as a guide to Hell as Dante and Virgil had before him.... for ONE SINGLE DAY! that's it! he miraculously escapes Hell with not even a scratch on him. I've never met a character so wrapped up in plot armor in my life!

Always a great read.

I woke my husband up with my uncontrollable laughter reading about the D in bed. Having it read to me was even better. As always, a great read and a great series.

Nate just can't help himself

Loved every second of this book. It really feels like we are starting to speed towards events that were only hinted at a couple of books back. I am already downloading the next book.

Felt to short.

If I had a complaint about this story, it would be the trip to hell. That in my mind should have been a momentous occasion but felt kinda glossed over and underutilized. Other than that, another enjoyable read.
