Publisher's Summary

One family. Nine momentous days. An unforgettable novel of love and folly and heartbreak.

It is 1939, and although Australia is about to go to war, it doesn’t quite realise yet that the situation is serious. Deep in the working-class Melbourne suburb of Richmond it is business - your own and everyone else’s - as usual. And young Kip Westaway, failed scholar and stablehand, is living the most important day of his life.

Kip’s momentous day is one of nine that will set the course for each member of the Westaway clan in the years that follow. Kip’s mother, his brother Francis and, eventually, Kip’s wife, Annabel, and their daughters and grandson all find their own turning points, their triumphs and catastrophes, in days to come.

But at the heart of all their stories is Kip, and at the centre of Kip’s 15-year-old heart is his adored sister Connie. They hold the threads that will weave a family.

In Nine Days Toni Jordan has harnessed all the spiky wit, compassion and lust for life that drew fans in droves to Addition and Fall Girl. Ambitious in scope and structure, triumphantly realised, this is a novel about one family and every family. It is about dreams and fights and sacrifices. And finally, of course, it is - as it must be - about love.

The story was Ok but it jumped around too much .

I really enjoyed the start of this story but the longer it went on the more difficult it became to read/listen to. I believe this was due to the constant going back and forward in time with different characters with different stories which thank goodness eventually fell into place.

Nine Days - Brilliant story!

Such an authentic Australian story. Genuine voice. The narrator was fantastic - excellent pace and tone. An excellent resource for the classroom if teaching this text.

made me cry. (caroline and tim👌)

it was so sad but you don't expect it until it happens and I was gasping in horror and evil satisfaction at the drama like a crazy crackhead with my headphones in while vacuuming by the fourth chapter at EVERY LINE. the reading was better than expected and I could emerse my self in the story easily.

Comes together well

At first story seems slightly confusing and strange but it’s worth it for the ending to the whole narrative

in short, this is one great novel!

this book was pretty different; non-chronological sequence and some characters were far more interesting than others; especially the contemporary characters.
this book made you feel like no matter if you're a male or a female or other; you could at some level relate to at least one of the 7 main characters.
i felt like I could relate to the younger characters; the ones that live in this generation and even the millennials; however i could understand how some other characters could feel- especially the way it was written; oh man, i felt so heartbroken; particularly Connie and her chapter.
jack is someone that gives you an insight into what it's like being a man and defies toxic masculinity, then there's Annabelle; I'm sure anyone who has a father that you've got to serve can relate to...
Overall, it was a great book with an excellent writing style and not too difficult of a read. except for the parts where you got to figure out when the chapter was set in; this part is going to be challenging for those who're kind of weak in history.
Toni Jordan is one fantastic author!
