Paul Noble left school unable to speak a language – having found that the traditional learning methods left him feeling ‘confused, incapable and unable to really say anything’. Determined that there must be a better way to learn, Paul spent years devising his own unique method of learning languages which cuts out all the grammar, all the memorisation, and all the stress. He began using his method to teach in his Language Institute and, thousands of students later, he prides himself on never having had a student fail.

Good for the basics

Very easy to learn along, nicely presented, but you get very little vocab out of these courses.

Well done Paul!

German is my fifth language, and after trying many methods while learning the others, this is by far the most useful and effective for beginning a language. I learn very quickly, so my only complaint is that it can move a bit slowly at times, but I think it would be perfect for most language leaners. Learning new words and concepts is very easy in this course, and remembering then is effortless with the well timed repetition. Overall better than anything I have tried as a beginner for my other languages (Rosetta Stone, Duolingo, other apps, learning in a classroom) You will not be fluent at the end of the course, but it provides a very strong foundation for quickly improving your German. If I ever need to learn Italian, I will definitely use Paul’s course!

A superb course that really works!

This is a really superb course that makes German instinctive, allowing you to learn grammar almost subconsciously. I have tried many ,often more expensive, language courses but this is simply the best! Highly recommended! The approach taken simply works with daily application you can make significant progress in speaking German as opposed to use learning complicated German grammar.

The best. I recommend this book

This book really helped me improve my German I hope he does another level. You can learn the German cases organically as we would learn our first language.

Fabulous! Engaging, effective, confidence-building.

I took German for 3 years, twenty years ago. This was the perfect starting point to pick the language back up (I skipped the first course.) The quiz format that builds up your knowledge base cumulatively is awesome - there’s constant repetition and review built into the lessons, without it feeling tedious. I am an auditory learner, so this made possible my long-held goal of trying to get some of my German language skills back! I can now watch TV shows in German with English subtitles, and match up what’s being said in German with the English, if that makes sense. I would need to expand my vocab before being able to watch only in German, but I feel that I’m well on my way. I hope a third volume gets released!!!

Nice.way to.learn

It is useful book and his methods too,but it is a lack of other voices in the audio( always same.person_ Female) I would say it would be better with different people( male and women) and also add dialogue. But nothing is perfect.

Learning German Part 2

This is the second book in Paul Noble's German course and I really feel I have an overall grip on the language sounds and sentence patterns. I did the first one for beginners first and then this one. It's all listening and repetition. which is great, but fortunately there's also an accompanying pdf with all the written information. Now that I've listened I'll be reading and writing the written notes and then I plan to go back to the audio. I highly recommend this two-level course if you're serious about learning German. It's a well planned and presented course which will guide you in the process of learning the language.

Really useful for anyone in A2 and more !

I wish I had discovered this book when I was still in the A2 , B1 niveau !! It's genuinely useful and helps you integrate the sentence structures really well ! Bonus is you can do it while walking , or driving and that makes the language more present in your life !! I highly recommend it , I went through the whole book after not practicing German for 6 months after my B2 . Hope I can find one for more advanced communication !

50% English

When I learn a foreign language, I want it to be teached in the foreign language. Otherwise it is not immersive enough. 10% or 20% of English would be OK, but not 50% or more.

Excellent explanations

I have completed the basic course and next steps and am about to embark on a German night class. I highly recommend the Paul Noble course. You can do it in the car or whilst walking the dog if you like because you can do the entire course as audio only. This is perfect if your main aim is to speak German and delay learning how to write it until you have mastered the basics. I am also doing Pimsleur level 2 but really struggle to do that alone as Pimsleur does not give you grammar explanations; you are expected just to figure the patterns out for yourself. I find this almost impossible in German as it has strict grammar rules. This Paul Noble course gives a clear explanation of everything that is taught. I have also used Speed Language Learning and unlike that course, the pronunciation on Paul Noble is crystal clear. He will ensure you know whether the sound at the end of the word is m or n. This is so important in German because it changes the meaning of the sentence and the word. Another course that I can compare it to is Michael Thomas. Again, personally I would recommend Paul Noble over Michael Thomas because with Paul Noble you are asked to say something, given time to say it and then the narrator says it correctly. In my opinion this is better than Michael Thomas where you are listening to a lesson in which the students get things wrong so you are listening to incorrect prose plus correct prose. If you only want to hear correct prose, listen to this. The downside is that it is a little slow and repetitive but repetition is key to learning. I listen to the easier parts on 1.25 speed.

Not very big steps

This is still quite basic and I was hoping for something more advanced.. If only it were possible to say what kind of level it is aimed at

As good as the first book. A little less hand holding and I recommend relistening to difficult chapters before continuing.

Suits my brain!

Had struggled learning German in a classroom setting many years ago and had given up after 1-2 terms. Thoroughly enjoyed both the beginners and next step German audio courses with a focus on listening and speaking (not grammar) and feel that I have made good progress in a short time. More importantly, am incentivised to take it further and explore other resources. Thanks and pleased to have found a mode of learning that seems to suit my brain! Try it!

Repeats

I liked it mostly, however he has this thing about cinemas/movie theatres, films/movies. I would forget the scentence as I would start translating then he would start the scentence again and I would lose my space. Once he had cinema and I would gladly and the sentence was repeated 4 times with all the different combinations! I just gave up as I wasn't sure where I was/ where he was or what had already been said

Best language course out there

I have completed Paul Noble’s course in full and have learned so much more than any book could teach me. It’s so easy to follow and the principles are so easy to remember, speaking basic German, something I had been struggling with, became almost easy. Thank you Paul!

Great way of learning German grammar

The book focuses mainly on new grammatical structures and teaches them very well, by letting the audience flow with the language. I really enjoyed learning about "catapult" structures and practising them in everyday scenarios. Occasionally, I felt that some topics are too repetitive but I can believe that that's necessary for our brains to remember. In other words, while the first book was very impressive in terms of content and new vocabulary, in this second book I feel like there could have been more new content as the audience has already got used to the pace.
