About this listen

The second book in the Merriwell Sisters series—another hilarious, sparkling historical romantic comedy from Virginia Heath, filled with whip-smart banter, swoony romance, hilarious mishaps, and twisty reveals that will make you gasp and laugh in delight.

Why on earth would she want to kiss him when he vexed her so?

Diana Merriwell and Giles Sinclair only tolerate one another for the sake of their nearest and dearest. Everyone believes that they are meant to be together, but Diana and Giles know that it is animosity, not attraction, that fuels their barbed exchanges. Anyway, Diana loves her freedom too much to give it up for marriage, and Giles is happily wedded to his bachelor lifestyle.

After Giles' curmudgeonly father, the Duke of Harpenden, unexpectedly turns up his toes, it's only a matter of time before the circumstances of his only son's birth are revealed. With the threat of blackmail hanging over him, Giles must uncover the truth, or he and all those who depend on him will be ruined.

As Giles and Diana dive into his family's past, the attraction that they insisted wasn't there proves impossible to ignore. It seems that the future of the Sinclair estate isn't the only thing on the line...

Loved it! It's not often I turn right around at the end of a book and start reading again - this was one of those times. In fact, I went back to the first in the series 'Never fall for your fiancee' in order to prolong the delight. That one is a 'must read first' if you want to get the whole picture of how Giles and Diana started out sparking off each other.
Both books have many laugh out loud passages in a slow burn of a romance between two people who were destined to be together but determined (for different reasons) not to give in.
And the narration here is superb - acted, not just read. Thank you Kristin, for the best 12 hours of narration I've experienced in ages. Your 'voice' made the characters come alive.

A 'tour de force'

Story was extremely entertaining - as are all Virginia Heath’s books. The writing is clever, and the characters’ conversations are frequently very amusing.
The narration was absolutely perfect, and I long to hear Kristin Atherton read another of this author’s books. I listened to this one twice, back to back, and will no doubt listen again in the future. Highly recommended!

Absolutely excellent

I'm convinced that this book should have been at least half the length.
Don't be sucked in by the synopsis. The story is definitely not hilarious, delivers precisely zero scenes of "whip-smart banter", and the romance was too obvious to be swoony.

Excruciatingly slow
