Story
After the worst pandemic in mankind's history, anarchy threatens to break apart the United States. The government is years away from providing even the most basic necessities. Militias, gangs of convicts, and rogue soldiers face off in a violent free-for-all as they vie for power. Few safe havens remain. Big cities have been overrun with deformed survivors of the Superpox-99 pandemic. Smaller towns are being overtaken by authoritarians and lawless thugs. And congested interstates have become thoroughfares for desperate travelers and bandits seeking to capture women and supplies.
Publisher's Summary
National Treasure is the tenth book in Dr. Bradley's Survivalist series.
Just when it looks like Deputy Marshal Mason Raines might finally settle into a life free from violence, he receives an emergency distress call from the New Colony. Not only has his handler been brutally attacked, but the life of a treacherous woman he once loved is also in danger. Forced to choose between contentment and duty, he must once again forsake his own happiness for the welfare of others. This time, however, he would be well-served to remember that the motives of those being rescued are anything but pure.
Faced with an equally daunting challenge, Tanner and Samantha travel west to Fort Knox, Kentucky. Their goal is as simple as it is impossible: to rob the nation's gold vault of all its remaining treasure. The trip takes an unexpected turn, and they find themselves recruited by an old woman eager to lay her husband to rest. But even that task is not without moral choices that have them questioning what it means to be one of the nation's last remaining survivors.

Disappointed
I have loved this series and anxiously await each new book in the series. This one has been a disappointment. The smart, resourceful mind of Mason Raines has turned to lustful mush in this book. It was very tiresome to see him acting like a hormonal teenager.
There was a lot of attention and detail given to the characters location, tedious details to geographical location that may have been important but could have been relayed without describing every crossroad and its position on the compass.
The other characters made progress in their development but it was like pulling teeth to get through it.

11th Edition out Yet?
Even though this edition was slower moving than the previous ten, it made for a good read. Every edition compels you to embrace the relationship between Tanner and Samantha more and more as it grows.

The Continuation Of An Excellent Adventure
This book continues the journey with the cammaraderie between characters sprinkled with laughter, suspense, and action. The books are just too short and they end too soon. Looking forward to the next book!
