You can write them as silly, irrational and unthinking. You can have them do any idiotic thing, and the reader has no options, aside from rolling their eyes...to accept the actions of the characters. Two utter losers meet on an ice planet under extreme circumstances and for the entire book...torture the reader with their stupidity. Let this one go!
