Wie sich schnell herausstellt, befindet sich ganz in der Nähe eine umstrittene Pelztierfarm, aus der Minuten zuvor über 20.000 Tiere von militanten Tierschützern befreit wurden. Deren Anführer ist ein gewisser Hark Steevens, der in dieser Nacht durch ein Bekennervideo ankündigt, einen gnadenlosen Feldzug gegen die Betreiber von Tierfarmen und gegen die Pharma-Industrie zu führen. Am nächsten Morgen findet man Steevens in einem Straßengraben. Tot und grausam zugerichtet. Dr. Cornelius Stahl kann die Erlebnisse jener Nacht nicht vergessen und macht sich daran, den Fall auf seine Art zu untersuchen. Er taucht ein in ein Milieu, das sich schon bald als brisant und lebensgefährlich erweist.
