About this listen

Prudence knows exactly how a proper romance should unfold—after all, she plans to write them someday. Unfortunately, real life seems determined to ignore her rules.

For years it has been decided that Prudence's sister will marry their neighbor's eldest son, a match guaranteed to bring titles, fortune, and great satisfaction to both families. Prudence alone finds the arrangement dreadful. How can anyone promise their heart to a man they barely know?

Resolved to fix matters herself, Prudence takes it upon herself to help the awkward pair discover one another's charms and, if she is very clever, fall properly in love.

It is the perfect plan, until it goes dreadfully awry. The more Prudence helps the pair fall in love, the more she fears she is the one doing the falling.

I loved this story! The characters were all well-developed, and their conversations masterfully constructed - lots of amusing, and sometimes touching exchanges. Mostly, the author used language - words and phrases - that were in keeping with the setting and time frame, but every now and again an out of place. American colloquial expression slipped through: characters of that English social class would not have used phrases like ‘something terrible’ (e.g. ‘She was complaining about it something terrible!). It’s my only complaint - I recommend this book , which was overall very entertaining!

Delightful!i.
