Korede is bitter. How could she not be?

Her sister, Ayoola, is many things: the favorite child, the beautiful one, possibly sociopathic. And now Ayoola's third boyfriend in a row is dead. Korede's practicality is the sisters' saving grace. She knows the best solutions for cleaning blood, the trunk of her car is big enough for a body, and she keeps Ayoola from posting pictures of her dinner to Instagram when she should be mourning her 'missing' boyfriend. Not that she gets any credit.

A kind, handsome doctor at the hospital where Korede works is the bright spot in her life. She dreams of the day when he will realize they're perfect for each other. But one day Ayoola shows up to the hospital uninvited, and he takes notice.

When he asks Korede for Ayoola's phone number, she must reckon with what her sister has become and what she will do about it. Sharp as nails and full of deadpan wit, Oyinkan Braithwaite has written a deliciously deadly debut that's as fun as it is frightening.

Enjoyable on a number levels

Brilliant narration brought the Nigerian characters, setting and style of speech to life
Written in a punchy style and moves at quick pace.
A surprisingly fun listen given the subject matter - can be enjoyed just as an easy read but can also make you think about big issues (like sibling relationships, status of women and men, beauty) without being judgy or preachy. A gem of a novella.

brilliant

loved this book, it was so entertaining and surprisingly oddball. I doubt the subject matter would be for everyone but I'm not easily put off by serial killers. Narrator was awesome

Entertaining and different

Despite the title, the book is more about the relationship between the sisters, rather than murders. This means it’s a surprisingly ‘light’ read, with humor, drama and suspense.
The different country also provides an refreshing background to the story.
Should be made into a movie!

Terrific Story-Telling

I was bowled over by this book. Not by the murders, but by the relationship between two sisters, and the gradual revelation of their family background. By the last lines you understand why the long-suffering Korede cleans up, time and again, after her spoilt, self-centred, knife-toting younger sibling.

A great listen

A great story without the use of the word ‘psychopath’ once! Reasons for why the characters behave as they do are hinted at without being explored, keeping a great pace to the story and allowing the listener to ponder what, why and especially whom is ultimately to ‘blame’. Really, really glad I chose to buy this book.
