About this listen

Ryder

It's a cliche really, falling in love with my best friend, my very straight best friend. And to add more complications, I'm a football player, about to be drafted. We're manly men. We aren't supposed to be gay. But I am and I love the one person I'll never have. Until fate forces us together six years later. It'll be both a fantasy and hell on earth, playing along Crush - the only man who will ever truly own my heart.

Crush

He dropped a bomb on me. Then he left, never looking back. Our friendship - ruined until he lands back in my life. His presence is just as big as ever. I never forgot him, or what that one kiss so many years ago still does to my body. He's here, but is he willing to stay?

Contains mature themes.

Low angst romance

A nice story that is reasonably predictable. The characters are nice and the narration is OK. The nick name of Pretty Boy is way overused and by the end of the story becomes a bit nauseating.

There’s a man for you

A good simple feeling story about Men and their feelings. It’s nice to have a book of Gay Romance with a touch of erotica to wet the taste buds

Enjoyable second-chances / sports romance!

Best friends Crush Colton and Ryder Hanley have been estranged since the end of high school when Ry made a pass at Crush. Since then, Crush has been married, bitterly divorced, and become a father, and both men have had stellar pro football careers. Now Ryder is joining Crush’s team and Crush is not happy about it. Can the pair let bygones be bygones for the sake of the team and each other?

This has all the ingredients of a good story and I enjoyed the characters and the sports theme a lot, especially the game play! Crush’s daughter was super cute but I found the portrayal of his ex-wife overly painful—did she have to be painted that mean? The only real problem for me was the estrangement between Crush and Ryder. It seemed too unbelievable that the guys would not try to sort it earlier, given their previous close friendship and the fact that they met regularly on the field when their two teams played each other over the years. Other than that, I loved this second-chances / family drama / sports romance and will seek out the rest of the series! 🎧 Two of my favourite narrators, Chris Chambers (as Crush) and John Solo (as Ryder), both gave great performances on the audio!!
