About this listen
Audie Award Nominee, Paranormal, 2013
Teenage delinquent Angel Crawford lives with her redneck father in the swamps of southern Louisiana. She's a high school dropout, addicted to drugs and alcohol, and has a police record a mile long. But when she's made into a zombie after a car crash, her addictions disappear, except for her all-consuming need to stay "alive".

"Allison McLemore's delicate voice and Southern accent give Angel's first-person narration a humorous kick. McLemore excels at bringing Angel's self-deprecating and sarcastic comments to life. Her brisk pacing suits Angel's personality and draws listeners in from the first chapter, keeping them glued to their earphones as she plays up the book's 'gross factor' with drawling descriptions of gooey brains and crunchy skull cavities. She's also good at giving unique voices and mannerisms to secondary characters." ( AudioFile)
Angel is a drug addict who can't keep a job, in a dead end relationship and living with her alcoholic father. But after blacking out one night wakes up in the hospital naked with a mysterious letter and package from a stranger who has organised a job for her as a morgue driver & has given her one month to get herself together. Angel isn't aware of her undead status at first but as headless bodies start piling up & she meets a few sketchy people things start falling into place. Angel finds she's actually good at her job & wants more then pills, her loser boyfriend Randy & the strained relationship with her dad, but only if she can keep her head.
I really enjoy this story, has laugh out loud moments. I wish the gory moments were a little bit more gory. The final conflict seemed a little bit to rushed, but did end on a happy conclusion & can't wait to start book 2.
Allison McLemore has a great Southern accent that really helped bring the characters to life.
