Story
"Your son is missing," they say, and life as I know it is over. "Where would he go?" the police ask. "Where would he be?" my daughter begs. My heart races as images flash in my mind. The cabin we rent every autumn, surrounded by fiery-red maple trees. Voices raised. Tears falling. A marriage falling apart. And worst of all my husband telling our child, Theo, to run. The rest is a blank in my memory. If I close my eyes I can almost see it. A betrayal that has left me alone, in tatters, grieving for what we had.

Story
From the queen of white-knuckle suspense and searing family drama comes a harrowing glimpse into the real world behind the headlines. This is a novel of immense power and compassion - one that will move all who listen to it. Tina is a young woman hiding from her grief on the streets of the Cross. On a cold night in the middle of winter, she breaks all her own rules when she agrees to go home with a customer. What she finds in his house will change her life forever. The Boy Under the Table is gritty, shocking, moving and, ultimately, filled with hope.

Story
If you passed Alice on the street, you couldn’t help but smile. At how she holds hands with her husband, Jack, who she has been with since she was at university. At the way she admires her three boys, the center of her universe. But if you looked very closely, you’d see how tightly she holds Jack’s hand, afraid to let go. You’d see how carefully she watches her boys, scared to look away. She has told Jack that she ran away from home when she was younger - but she didn’t tell him the whole story.

Story
They find her just as the sun is beginning to rise in the early morning mist. They had begun at dawn, the group of searchers keen to get going. A missing child spurred everyone on. In the end, it was a flash of color, a bright neon pink that caught her eye. They had been looking for pink. Nothing tests your faith like being a mother. The first time your children walk to school alone, their first sleepover, when they finally fly the nest. As a parent, you have to believe that everything will be ok.

Publisher's Summary
My baby girl, I’ll never forget you - your smile, your laugh, the way your hair sparkles in the sun. I cannot comprehend this pain. I cannot breathe through it.
In the middle of the night, Claire wakes up to discover that her beloved daughter, Julia, is dead - and life, as she knows it, is over.
Searching for answers, Claire stumbles upon a pile of letters, hidden under Julia’s bed in an old, battered shoebox, and feels closer to her daughter than ever before. They tell her that Julia was happy, that she was thriving at university, that she was in love.
But as the letters go on, Claire starts to feel uneasy at something hidden between the lines. Even as she grieves, she must prepare to face a shocking discovery. Because Julia was hiding a terrible secret - and when it’s uncovered, it will make Claire question everything she thought she knew about her daughter....

Not as good as her other books
I have really enjoyed a few of her books but this one was obvious for me even as it felt like the book was being obviously deceptive. I don’t enjoy it when I can figure out all the twists a long time before the book reveal. Maybe just me.

Longer than necessary...
Although unlike other listeners, I didn’t know EXACTLY what was going to happen from the very beginning, but, I did have a pretty good idea. I kind of just wanted it to hurry up and be done so I could see if I was right. Which, I was. It was still a good story though.

????huh???
I listen to a dozen books a month and this was the first one that I had to keep replaying chapters. It was easy to zone out and became painful to listen to how predictable it was. I knew the plot ending in the first few chapters. The only reason I kept listening was that I was hoping I could not possibly be correct.... I was.
I wanted to shake the main character due to her naive, simplistic thinking.

Good story. Be aware domestic abuse covered.
This was my first Nicole Trope book. I enjoyed it immensely.
Please be aware that she covers domestic abuse within this book covering all it's subtleties as well as obvious aspects/
Having experienced emotional abuse myself I found her understanding and descriptions of all the different emotions experienced really well understood. I would even go as far as saying I found some scenarios she described a little unnerving as she was describing exactly what I felt and dealt with.
However it is a book that I found really enjoyable and although some have said they guess the ending it is very much a story with lots of twists and turns. I saw one plot line early on but I didn't have it completely right.
I am looking forward to finding more from Nicole Trope.
