Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction,” eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income.

Story
Ziwe made a name for herself by asking guests like Alyssa Milano, Fran Lebowitz, and Chet Hanks direct questions. In Black Friend, she turns her incisive perspective on both herself and the culture at large. Throughout the book, Ziwe combines pop-culture commentary and personal stories that grapple with her own (mis)understanding of identity. From a hilarious case of mistaken identity via a jumbotron to a terrifying fight-or-flight encounter in the woods, Ziwe raises difficult questions for comedic relief.

Story
There's this weird gap in life that's fuelled by cheap tacos and even cheaper tequila - also known as our 20s. It's a specific limbo of being suspended between being a teenager and a 'Proper Adult' and though it's wildly confusing, often lonely, sometimes embarrassing and frequently daunting, there's also a whole lot of magic to be found in the chaos. It's a time when we're finding our own voices, cementing our relationships and starting to fulfil our big ambitions (or simply just working out what they are).

Publisher's Summary
A deeply honest investigation of what it means to be a woman and a commodity from Emily Ratajkowski, the archetypal, multi-hyphenate celebrity of our time.
Emily Ratajkowski is an acclaimed model and actress, an engaged political progressive, a formidable entrepreneur, a global social media phenomenon and, now, a writer. Rocketing to world fame at age 21, Ratajkowski sparked both praise and furor with the provocative display of her body as an unapologetic statement of feminist empowerment. The subsequent evolution in her thinking about our culture's commodification of women is the subject of this audiobook.
My Body is a profoundly personal exploration of feminism, sexuality and power, of men's treatment of women and women's rationalizations for accepting that treatment. These essays chronicle moments from Ratajkowski's life while investigating the culture's fetishization of girls and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women's sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries and the grey area between consent and abuse.
Nuanced, unflinching and incisive, My Body marks the debut of a fierce writer brimming with courage and intelligence.

Insightful
I’ve never heard someone so accurately voice these kinds of issues. She’s not afraid to say things that I’m sure most people would like to pretend they weren’t thinking.
I found it really intriguing and insightful. It did make me feel a bit pessimistic about the world for a few days, but I’m glad I read it.

Story to Heal the Feminine
Beautifully written. It was insightful and Emily is such a talented writer - nuanced descriptions creating deep empathy and compassion. Easy to follow along and yet still had depth and complexity in her writing.
Unique stories of Emily relating to her body which was relieving to hear her similar trials despite my body being different. I enjoyed hearing her reading - I could hear the depression, relate to the anxiety, hear her begrudging acceptance of things she had lived and hear the heartbreak when her voice cracked.
A heartfelt and deeply feeling memoir. Will be looking forward to reading more of Emily’s future writing.

Real and Vulnerable
This is Emily’s story. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to be this honest and open. She is real about her inner thoughts and attitudes. I think most woman will be able to relate to parts of her story.

Nice surprise. But heavy listening.
I was surprised to find I really enjoyed listening to this. It was heavy going at times, and her read of it was a little bit monotone l, but it was thought provoking and well written. A very interesting perspective that I wasn’t expecting to hear

Great read
I found the premise of this book intriguing and noticed how great the reviews were. Emily's writing did not disappoint. Her heartbreaking, honest retrospective view on the modelling industry is stark and at times brutal. She does not shy away from the criticisms of her career either and addressing the dichotomy that is her lifestyle.

Eloquent & Moving
I was so moved by listening to Emily’s experiences in her own words through her own voice. Not only are her stories moving but her prose is vivid and evocative. I hope she continues to write more books because her thoughts are so honest, insightful and compelling.

Loved listening
Well written and beautifully read. An interesting perspective and good insight into the life of a model who is very transparent, intelligent and aware of how she got where she did, but with a cost.
