Publisher's Summary

A deeply honest investigation of what it means to be a woman and a commodity from Emily Ratajkowski, the archetypal, multi-hyphenate celebrity of our time.

Emily Ratajkowski is an acclaimed model and actress, an engaged political progressive, a formidable entrepreneur, a global social media phenomenon and, now, a writer. Rocketing to world fame at age 21, Ratajkowski sparked both praise and furor with the provocative display of her body as an unapologetic statement of feminist empowerment. The subsequent evolution in her thinking about our culture's commodification of women is the subject of this audiobook.

My Body is a profoundly personal exploration of feminism, sexuality and power, of men's treatment of women and women's rationalizations for accepting that treatment. These essays chronicle moments from Ratajkowski's life while investigating the culture's fetishization of girls and female beauty, its obsession with and contempt for women's sexuality, the perverse dynamics of the fashion and film industries and the grey area between consent and abuse.

Nuanced, unflinching and incisive, My Body marks the debut of a fierce writer brimming with courage and intelligence.

Real and Vulnerable

This is Emily’s story. I can’t imagine how hard it would have been to be this honest and open. She is real about her inner thoughts and attitudes. I think most woman will be able to relate to parts of her story.

Nice surprise. But heavy listening.

I was surprised to find I really enjoyed listening to this. It was heavy going at times, and her read of it was a little bit monotone l, but it was thought provoking and well written. A very interesting perspective that I wasn’t expecting to hear

Wow

For this book I would say TW: sexual assault is expressed throughout and in detail.

I was honestly shocked about how good and relatable this book is.
Emily offers all of the pieces of her life, raw and honest. She points out the power imbalance between women and men in the modelling industry and also society. - How women are seen as accessories to men and she really captivates the power that men have.
She is a talented writer, tbh I wasn’t a fan of her before this book but now I definitely am.

Truly amazing.

Truly an amazing book that offers so much insight into the strange world of the famous but also so relatable to every woman. We share the same experiences.

First review I’ve ever written

I’ve never felt compelled to write a review for anything before. I’ve also never been touched by someone else’s experiences like this before.
This beautifully written book bought up lost memories I had forgotten as a young woman, it bought up feelings that were buried underneath denial. Even though my life couldn’t be more different from Emily’s, her experiences are so familiar not just with myself but I’m sure with other young women all over the world. My Body made me feel like I’m not alone, that these feelings are shared with others. It made feel a new found respect for all women close in my life and for others I do not know yet. It gave me a new found respect and admiration for my own incredible body. Emily is beautiful inside and out, but mostly inside.

Haunting

Beautifully written, enthralling, and devastating.

It poses some difficult questions, yet reads like a slow-burn thriller or ghost story, perfectly matched by the author’s serene performance (when it wavered only once, during the reading of the famous essay “Buying My Body Back” it broke me).

This is a must read, both as a culture-shifter and a page turner. I devoured it quickly and I’ve been haunted by it since.

overrated

although the personal anecdotes are compelling and she reveals some insight into what men think of women are - bodies on a pedestal - she has not revealed that much. furthermore she uses far too many adjectives and over describes settings.

Obsession and complaint, no empowerment in sight

Story of a woman who grew up too early, too fast in a dysfunctional household where her parents were obsessed with her body, in return she became obsessed with her body and communicated her body as the only capital she has. Now she is “a mother” and wants to change the narrative and become a writer: still, all she can write about is her body. It is a vapid, vain, predictable account.

Her reading was amazing though, would definitely rate her as a narrator. The material was flowing and above average, however fails to offer any character development or fresh insight.

Emrata

Founding myself loving the idea of modeling and be around the industry because of seeing people like emrata and Bella Hadid but after listening to my body it makes me really wonder what these models go through bc people just see them as people that show their beauty but there much more then that and now emrata is using her voice to share her experiences.LOVE IT !

Interesting Angle for a Celebrity Memoire

I watched Emily over a few days of heavy promotion on the late night TV show circuit and Fashion channels, and also read an excerpt on The Guardian before I ordered this on here. I find the themes quite relevant for me as a woman and also saw this an interesting way of writing a memoire for a celebrity. The publishers and Emily smartly combined relevant gender issues/politics, the exposé and celebrity memoire to capture the zeitgeist. Indeed, it is already a best seller.

There are some juicy details regarding famous models and billionaires. However, I like that it 'appears' to be so honest, which makes Emily's story resonant with so many women including myself. It made me feel not alone and that life is complex and not like what the media or marketing or your parents like you to believe how binary life is.

I must note that Emily's reading or performance is sometimes not easy to listen to because she mumbles and can be monotone. Perhaps it is better to read it as a book.

Beautifully written, very moving

Part memoir and part commentary on how the female body is portrayed and used. I thought the prose was beautifully written and the narratives insightful and moving.

It is not bad. An extremely pleasant read!

It is a tough book to write a review for. If nothing else, it is compelling. There is no particular insight about anything, but it was definitely personal and painted a semi-coherent picture about the life of an uber-hottie. It gives a glimpse into a small section of a world I do not and cannot know.

There are a lot of interesting gaps and incongruences. The more "poetic" statements in the book are pretty laughable, and many points and conclusions are pretty vapid. But! If I were to publish my diaries, it would be similar.

Over all, this would have taken a lot of courage to write and publish, and Emily should be applauded for the having done it. The narration was fantastic, great cadence, tone, and annunciation.

It is a good read, not 5 stars though. I think it probably had to be that way. The way it constantly jumps around and half tells stories works really well for the subject matter.

Real, Raw

It’s easy to dismiss Ratajkowski as a “sex symbol”
but this work places her in the centre of understand sexuality and femininity, the make gaze, complexities of body commodification and much more. Well done to her!

Honest and thought provoking

Emily Ratajkowski has written a beautiful honest account of what it is like to be her, and other young beautiful women, she has not left out her ego in this, on purpose. She accepts a certain responsibility in her actions and behaviour regardless of the fact that discrimination and predators are to blame. Although misplaced, she knows that this will add strength to her voice and it does. It is a kindness that she shows to people who do not deserve it. But she is the bigger person.
Although sickening in many parts to listen to it is overall enjoyable to read, because of her story and how she tells it. Well done to Emily, this is a wonderful book that she has written.

I would recommend this book to….my daughter and my son and all the daughters and sons.

A book to take seriously

So glad I read this book. I hope the honesty in the words helps pave a safer path for the young women who find themselves in similar situations. Thoughtful placement of the chapters supported the integrity of the story - you can certainly write Emily! and the narration was perfectly delivered,

You are me, thank you sister ✨✨

Finished this book in one day. I saw my self and my life experiences reflected so precisely in many words here. You embody the feminism I always longed for, the permission slip to be sexy and bold and take back my power. To not apologise. To celebrate my beauty even if women hated me for it and men felt predatory. That it is my divine birthright to enjoy myself in this way. My inner 13 year old and current 28 year old needed this. Thank you for this medicine.
