Publisher's Summary

An urgent cry for help brings Poirot to France. But he arrives too late to save his client, whose brutally stabbed body now lies face downwards in a shallow grave on a golf course.

But why is the dead man wearing his son's overcoat? And who was the impassioned love-letter in the pocket for? Before Poirot can answer these questions, the case is turned upside down by the discovery of a second, identically murdered corpse...

Really enjoyable read.

Lots of Christie twists. Well worth the listening time. Has all the right ingredients for the whodunnit.

classic agatha Christie

Hugh Fraser is a bit limited as a narrator but as you naturally associate him as Captain Hastings it's fine.

too contrived

this was the first AC I ever read and I wanted to revisit it. it's just not as good as later ones. the plot is too complex, the characterisation almost childlike in its cliche. recently did 5 pigs and 1, 2 shoe much, much better. narration good but French accents not best.

Captain Hastings Falls in Love!

I am a great Poirot and Hugh Fraser fan but I struggled with this audiobook. I lost count of the number of times I had to restart the book as I lost interest and my thread.
Having said that the last third of the book was better and worth reading just for the episode between Hastings and Poirot in Chapter 22 (shades of homo-erotic!?!). Wonderful for Poirot fans.

Traditional who done it

An old favourite, a comfortable "listen again" book; for me, it never gets old.
That Hastings finds his true love is a charming bonus.
