Der Schriftsteller Bernhard Mücke beantragt einen Reisepass. Der Punkt am Ende seiner Signatur stört den Amtsschimmel – dieser wiehert gewaltig! Daraufhin sieht sich Mücke genötigt, auf sein liebgewonnenes Zeichen der Interpunktion zu verzichten. Direkt nach dem Behördengang stürzt er von einer Brücke in den Tod, die Kripo ermittelt.
Ein Zeuge der etwas anderen Art meldet sich zu Wort: Ein Grafologe, der Mückes Unterschrift unlängst analysiert hatte, gibt anhand des Schriftbildes zu bedenken, dass der Dichter aus einem ganz bestimmten Grund den Verlust seines Punktes nicht verkraftet haben könnte.
Die Ursache, die zum Ableben Mückes führte, überrascht.
