About this listen

Life doesn't always go according to plan. For ex-CIA Agent Samuel Caulfield, his plans were ripped out from under him after a chance encounter in a firefight.

One deal with a dark goddess later, and he's cast into the trenches of a Victorian world, with clashing empires, Elves, Dwarves, Dragons, and more. Surrounded by death, on the front lines of a war without intelligence, he'll have to rely on his wits, his platoon, and a surprise gift from his goddess.

Will all that he's been given be enough to overcome the plots and machinations of those that oppose him?

I came for a light read (and boobs) which it provides. However, I didn't expect such engaging character development and world building from a light monstergirl harem isekai about an army ranger. This book slaps.

This had no right to slap this hard

With a real magic turn of the century feel, a modern day MC.
Gods playing with mortals

Great narration job.

A great story

I agree with the other reviews. This book had no right to be this ****ing good. Nothing like what I expected. Excellent character development and a pretty good story line. the relationship between Mc and the primary lady in his life was a little too rushed for me but that's personal preference and doesn't change the fact it was still well done. Worth a listen if you are between book series.

Give the book a chance. It won't let you down.

Definitely worth the listen. Characters are well narrated and the story is evocative. Looking forward to the next book.

Quite good actually

This story is one of the most incredible books I’ve ever listened to and I’m really looking forward to seeing more.

I was stunned at how good the story was. the MC is not an overpowered unstoppable god hes a man doing what he can with what he has. the world building was always left me wanting more and the voice actor was unbelievable. I could tell who was talking just from the accent.
if more are made I will buy them.

really good story.

A great first book filled with guns, magic, goddesses, monster girls, action and one tough main character. The author clearly has some military experience and translates it really well into a fantasy world with world war 2 level technology and magic besides. The relationships are believable, each character feels distinct and there are even a few laughs thrown in for good measure. Melanie Hastings is a fantastic narrator. Five out of five and I can't wait for the next book!

An excellent military isekai harem adventure!

Great story, loved every minute. I even stayed up to listen to the end in one go

Excited for book 2

Main character is only a rational hardened military vet until he's moved to the new world. Immediately after that he feels more like an awkward teenager. Shocked/embarrassed whenever a woman hits on him, fumbling details that make it obvious he's not from this world, and seemingly incapable of intuiting basic information from what he's already learned.
On top of that there's constantly inserted levity in what should be really serious situations, repeatedly breaking immersion. The tone feels like it should have been a slice-of-life adventure rather than a fantasy war campaign. This is just the same old immature magic highschool harem story cosplaying as a military fantasy.

A letdown
