Publisher's Summary

Shadowvale isn’t your typical small-town America. The sun never shines, the gates decide who enters, magic abounds, and every resident bears some kind of curse.

Exiled king of the goblins Robin Gallow has no choice but to live in Shadowvale. That was the deal he made with his ex-wife and current queen of the goblins in exchange for the antidote to the poison she gave him. Now, the town has become his prison, and his world is closing in on him. It’s enough to drive a man insane.

Theodora “Moody” Middlebright wants nothing to do with Shadowvale or the royal beast she’s about to spend the next year of her life with. But her father owes the man a debt, and he’s too unwell to pay it himself. So Theo has come in his stead. Doesn’t mean she’s one bit happy about it. But then Theo hasn’t been happy about anything since her mother died.

Turns out, Theo’s sharp wit and brash attitude are the breath of fresh air Robin didn’t know he needed, and the two somehow hit it off. But when his trust issues and her secrets collide, their budding feelings for each other are threatened with extinction.

Can Robin learn to trust a woman who’s kept her true identity hidden her whole life? Will it even matter if Theo thinks he’s the beast everyone believes him to be? Or will love give them both a brand-new start?

Another great read

I love the Shadow Vale series. Clever storyline with some characters from previous stories popping in. That always makes me feel as though I'm catching up with friends. I'm sure you'll enjoy her books as much as I have.

Editing problems FIXED!

Revised review 01/05/2021:
The audio problems seem to have been resolved, so Kristen Painter and B.J. Harrison get another five stars from me! Thanks!
Initial review: I have only gotten to chapter 3, but so far in this chapter there have been 3 times that the narration is speaking over itself. I am not sure if it is from the same chapter or not. It is only a few seconds each time. I replayed it to make sure my phone isn't the problem. Otherwise, I expect the same great story,as usual. I will change my review as soon as the problem is fixed. Thanks.

Beauty and the Beast with a Twist

Great listen, it kept me up wanting another chapter. The reader is excellent at different characters, the accent he uses I really enjoy.

Another knockout!!!

Painter/Harrison combo always means goodness for me. Author writes amazing stories with characters that I always want to know more about, while this narrator gives them voice to the point you can picture how they look.

Moody little beast

Okay, I pretty much loved all things Shadowvale, but I pretty much love all things Kristen Painter, so it's expected. I've now "read" all books in the Shadowvale series, and yup, I pretty much loved them all. The one I struggled with the most was The Forgettable Miss French because both she and the male character were very isolated until the end, and while they both had some pretty funny things happen it just wasn't quite the same. What I loved about this book besides Moody and the Beast was how the story traveled between realms. The time spent in Limbo is minimal, but it was still there, and thanks to Theo, aka Moody, you get a sense of how things are in Limbo, think Snow White's country under the evil queen's rule. Yes, it's a tad predictable as you know Robin is not guilty of the crime he has been portrayed as committing in Limbo's history books, that's obvious from the get-go, so I don't feel guilty for spoiling it. Last but not least, B.J. Harrison is phenomenal. Favorite book in the series, not quite, that belongs to The Vampire's Cursed Kiss, but this was no less awesome.

audio issues

So far the story is fine and the read great as usually, there seems to have been an issues with editing. There is random audio either from later in the book or separate project in chapter 3 about 40 minutes in.

YA Paranormal romance

Theo is sent to Shadowvale to fulfill her fathers gambling debt to the Goblin King aka Robin. Unbeknownst to everyone, Robin has been tricked out of his crown by his selfish ex-wife and sits cursed in exhile in Shadowvale. When Theo shows up to pay her dues she learns to know the man behind the would be crown King but is skeptical to believe it's not a show.

This is a light hearted YA Paranormal romance -
