Struggling with this one...

I find myself completely engaged by the story and cannot wait to see what comes next.. but the dialogue... oh Lord.. the dialogue is atrociously bad. Particularly with the female characters.

And the female narration (there are multiple narrators) is so, so cringe worthy. Remember that scene in "Jaws" when Quint drags his fingernails across the chalk board? It's like listening to that but sustained for three or four minutes...

Overall, the story is interesting enough that I'm willing to suffer through the bad parts. But be warned... they are QUITE bad.

Is the book that sheds light on the dark side of what it means to be a hero.

Way better than I expected

I came into into this series not expecting much. If you want a full on theatrical voice acting probably not gonna be for you. But if you want a kinda soap opera teenage problem with super powers here it is. Might not be for everyone but I going on to book 3. The voice acting isn’t terrible. People reading books that’s what it sounds like to me. Anyways give it a shot if you don’t have anything else you might be surprised...

Enjoyable story

I enjoyed the second installment in the series. I felt like the narrators did a better job than the first book although some of them need to work on their accents. The one criticism I had of the story was of the character Gracin. His story arc did not seem to entirely make sense. Without giving anything away, there was a little bit too much of a leap in his character’s progression in the latter part of the story. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the story and will likely continue with this series.

Great Story But 15 Yr Old Bedroom Relationships???

I am now on the third book. The stories are really strong, but the caveat is all the casual "bedroom" scenes between kids who are 15 and 16. It is amazing how much is thrown into these books and it has not real value to the plots. I am not a prude, but it is really off putting when one second there is a bedroom scene with grown adults, and then it switches to the same scene with kids. Weird.

But like I wrote in the review of the first book, I love the race/gender/ethnic diversity of the superheroes, the character development of the main protagonist is great, and each book does a good job moving the story forward.

There are a few quibbles I have, like Grayson's rapid switch in the first book from great guy to terrible guy. They seemed really , really forced, and could have been done better.

That being said, these are great additions to the superhero genre.
