Not Worth Listening to

I downloaded this book with the intention of gaining valuable knowledge on how to better manage my finances, however, this book did not give me anything that was applicable to my life, or many others for that matter. The author suggested that getting a second job was not a hard task, but what about those of us who work two jobs and are still struggling? She said that she was able to go through college and not leave with any student debt by working during the school year, but this is not realistic for many. I could save every single cent I make in a year and I still wouldn’t be able to pay my full college tuition. She gave the typical Dave Ramsay style advice of “stop buying Starbucks everyday and you’ll save so much money” or “cancel your gym membership and workout at home” but neither of these examples are things that educate or help. I think many people who are reaching to a book for advice already know that if they didn’t buy $5 lattes everyday they could save money, they are looking for tips and tricks beyond the obvious. I would not recommend this book to anyone who already works two jobs, budgets, or makes their own coffee at home already because that is all the advice you’ll receive from Money Honey.

I needed this!! A++

Okay so I’m a 30 year old, single mom to three, who owns her own business, house, cars, etc... I thought I had it all figured out. Then I listen to this book. LIFE CHANGING. I listened to one chapter then I’d stop, actually do what she says and then move on. I feel so much more in control of my money and have a plan now!! I thought I was in control before and had a “budget” but the freebies she sends to really really budget are so much better! The best part is that this is written as if she’s actually having a conversation with me, not as if she’s some snooty 50+ person who knows better. She’s a normal person who is our age! The ideas she has for us to do are realistic and attainable! I can’t recommend this enough!

A Good Book for Your Arsenal

Money can be confusing and intimidating. And few folks want to talk about it. This book was great at teaching me the language of money and gave me the confidence to be more active with it. I appreciate the tidbits on “things to follow,” particularly with respect to strategies for building wealth. That said, the audiobook was challenging for me to follow at times. If you are deciding between a print version or ebook and the audiobook, I would suggest the print version/ebook.

Good information if you fit the description

This book is written for a specific type of person. Someone who needs help budgeting and planning for their future, but they have to be willing to work for it. It talks about the typical savings of cutting out Starbucks and picking up a second job to make extra money, which doesn’t apply to everyone. She touches on paying off debt and a slight dip into investing which can be helpful if you have debt and don’t know where to start. I think book would be better to read than to listen as an audio book. I think when it comes to finance/numbers/budgeting, seeing the examples written is better than just listening to them. The tone of the reader also comes off as condescending and placing the readers below her.

Very Basic

Not bad for someone who has no experience w/any of these subjects. Not the best for someone who is at the beginning of putting their life back together and has this knowledge. ‘Can’t help someone only able to put $100 a month into savings.’ Which is LESS then what I’m able to do.

Great Listen!

Normally I only do audio books for stories since I’m not overly concerned with remembering all of the details. However, I decided to give this a try as an audio book and I’m glad I did! It was very easy to follow along and the information was super helpful! I haven’t had a chance to sit down and do the budgeting sheet part yet but I am planning to do that soon! The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is for performance. I honestly think the author should have narrated - it would have made more sense and been more enjoyable because I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator’s voice. I also felt like the “hashtag” mentions were a little too juvenile and made the author seem a little less credible than she actually is. Overall, I enjoyed this audiobook and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some financial guidance - whether you are a novice or a pro!

Good for younger listeners

This would have been a great book for an early college me. I like the easy listen of this, but the tone of it got to me after awhile. I think this is a great read for a younger person who is just starting out on their independent financial journey.

Fun to Listen, Quick, and Actionable!

Not only is this a fairly quick listen at 5 hours, when listened to at 1.0x pace, but it's really easy to apply immediately. I recommend listening when you're able to take action on the advice right away via planning, budgeting, investing, etc. Rachel provides really clear guidance of how to bucket savings - it was handy to be able to replay anything she mentioned in order to adjust my own efforts to organize my finances. I highly recommend this audiobook as a relatable, actionable, and informative resource. You will feel empowered and set to take on your financial goals once you listen and take the steps outlined by Rachel!

Great Advice

Great advice for those who are beginning to learn about personal finance and budgeting (or those who need a refresher). Realistic advice for young adults.
