Mobius

Gardon Whited is one of my favorite author and this series is bloody brilliant. This book has everything great characters and world you will not be disappointed with reading or listen to this book.

And with the voice acting talents and skills of Sean Runnette who makes the characters and world come alive with the narration of this book.

Meh

Author ran out of ideas and restarted the multivers basicly revamping book 2 on easy mode. No real tension throughout the book, no danger whatsoever no lasting consequences after the first 3 hours.
At least he finished the story arc this time

Big departure

So this story picks up where the last one ended but it’s doesn’t take very long for everything we have read and seen developed to be set aside because of the time travel element. That jarred me a lot. I miss the characters from book five, I really wanted to see what happens with the moon people and I liked the multiverse events of book five. This book has a little bit of the multiverse in the first quarter of the story right after Eric goes back in time but after that it settles on this one world that I imagined as some kind of feudal Japan but that’s probably just me. I dislike how Eric’s character has gotten angrier and angrier while making the same basic mistakes and hypocritical actions. For example he hates people spying on him but he spies on everyone else. He hates being a leader but when someone doesn’t call him but the honorific title of the position (that he is trying to reject and or avoid) then he gets very angry. There is not as much humor in this story and his alter ego god self is absent for the majority of the book. Eric can be super smart and very over powered but he fails to take basic precautions to keep his things from being stolen. Most of the time he is the one driving the conflicts to escalate rather than take actions to repair relationships or apologize. I wish he was the adventuring guy from the first, third and fifth book. Seems like the even books are always more moody and depressing and full of complaints. I also don’t understand how the orb of evil can be so powerful and indestructible. It seems like the orb was an excuse for the time jump between book two and three and a reason to jerk Eric out of being a king or adventuring on Rethvan. If the demon king entity was created then it can be destroyed. Why is it that only evil things dwell in Eric’s subconscious represented by the basement in his mental study? It’s like only his bad actions count and none of his good actions count. Anyway, what it boils down to is that as a character, Eric is becoming someone I don’t want to listen to or follow along with. He kind of reminds me of the person who thinks of themself as depressing so they act depressed and drive everyone away. Yet somehow there is always a woman that to quote firebrand “she likes you boss” which to be honest who the heck would want to be around someone who is always this angry and throws tantrums? Seriously, I lost count of the number of times Eric throws a tantrum in this book. One of my favorite moments was when his alter ego reestablishes contact with him and tells him to knock the dramatic dreaming off. Can we have adventure next time? Less Eric being a jerk and killing people for no reason? Though I do hope he raises the little girl that he has at the end. I hope the back of energy that went into her made her immortal or something. I also noted that even though Eric spent a lot of the book complaining about his time paradox and how he hates having no choice because he is fated to be his own vampire grandfather that he had a comment that he could see a way out of it. But not going to tell us that because it’s probably the plot of the next book. But at the same time even though he can see a way out he’s going to continue whining and moping about it. Maybe the next book will be more fun and less depressing. I just didn’t enjoy this book as much as previous entries.

Great book

Great book and nice addition to the series. I’m sad that I’ll have so long to wait before another installment comes out.

Same story different book.

it's a good book, like usual. just the same story that is being repetitive.

establishes a place to call home. finds a lover. has to deal with religion, and a force to fight off. abandons lover to go elsewhere.

it's the same story over and over so far.

first half of the book is all about him getting 'rid' of the demon king orb.

2nd half is about him as always conquering a force coming at his newly established village.

mixed with of course his constant whining and self complaints within his own mind.

the only thing I look forward to so far is finding out what is going to happen with the coppery eyed baby, and what she may be after the orb entered her.

didnt even have enough sense to name the poor child. fml.

The nerfing of your favorite weapon in a MMO & a filler episode of your favorite anime combined into a book

To be fair, I will buy the next book. I quite like the series. But this is a 40hour book that for most of it went nowhere. There were some interesting things that could go somewhere in the next book. It just felt to me like the main character got dumber than what was previously established.

Abrupt ending

This is the first Nightlord book that feels incomplete. Every book in the series is packed unutterably FULL - of plot points, side stories, characters, settings, new challenges and powers for the main character, yet every one, when it finally comes to an end, has felt like a cohesive whole that has a clear beginning, middle and end, except this one. For the first time, the author planted seeds for storylines that didn't bear any fruit in this book-- the kinds of seeds that, in every other book, would DEFINITELY be explored before the book ended, or at least begin to do so.

Sigh. The story is entertaining in the same way all books in the Nightlord series are. Sean Runette continues to give a great performance, and Mobius is definitely worth a read if you're into the series. But, I don't know, I guess I'd say be prepared for slight disappointment when you reach the end. There will be a moment where you go, "wait, that's it?! what about the _______?! and didn't he need to _______?!"

You've been warned.

It really felt like a filler.

Sean's performance was awesome. Unfortunately the story just felt like it went nowhere. I'm a big fan of Garon's work and I've been waiting for this story for so long and it just felt a little disappointing. It feels like the beginning of the end, but not in a good way.

Dissapointing

Comes no where near the quality of the other books.
Same old same old.
Different place, new names, same story.
Very unfortunate.
The only redeeming grace, the narration was spot on as usual.
The story, mehhh

NIGHTLORD MEETS THE TALBOTS...AWESOME

I never thought that these books could get better as they’re great anyway but when amazing characters like Mike Talbot, Tommy and BT from the Mark Tufo Zombie Fallout books appeared it is a awesome mix. Throughout the whole series there has been small tributes to other great books like when the Nightlord came across the turtle and elephants of Terry Pratchetts discworld.
Each book has been a wonderful distraction and I would love to see a follow up to this one.

Time for Halar to retire...

This has been a strong series but the last book seemed slower than usual... and unfortunately this book crawls even slower. Sadly, with respect, Mr Whited seems to have run out of story ideas but doesn’t seem to want to let Halar’s story end. As a consequence we have a 37 hour book where the same narrative could have been told in 17 hours, still leaving plenty of space for demon rumination. The kind thing to do now would be to put Halar down. He has had more than enough of his day.

continuation

though it posessed some truly great moments, I was a little underwhelmed by this one. it certainly delivered on plot, dialogue etc. but I got the sense this was a mild stall in the engine. i found myself bored during the first 10 hours and looking at the time remaining thinking 'it's early yet. still have 30 hours left of the book. it'll get interesting soon.' it just took too long to pick up the pace. it only happened in the last 8 hours or so. maybe it'll be better on the re-read. or maybe the strong ending of book 5 was what raised my expectation to an unrealistic level. regardless, I still liked it.

emotional whiplash

such a good story there is no doubt. but this story is a sharp 90 degree angle from everything that has been built up in the world and I feel emotional about it as well as angry that Eric doesn't feel more distraught by his losses. also ends on another Cliff hanger mid war which is a trope of this series that just makes you want to scream (in a good way)

the nightlord series is great but

i found this book so difficult to follow. i can only dive into the books for 30 mins at a time, and i understand the mobius is confusing but this is repeatedly difficult to follow until Eric settles into a world. prefer fugue. audio narration is amazing as always
