About this listen

Lady of the Tudor Court, servant of queens, courtier, wife, spy...and constant heart. This is the story of Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford.

In death, she would become infamous, yet in life passed often unseen. Jane Parker, daughter of the scholar Lord Morley, leaves her home at a tender age, embarking on a career in the dangerous Tudor Court. From the halls of her father's house to the palaces of London, from England to Calais and the Field of the Cloth of Gold Jane will travel, seeing much of this world, and others.

Promised in marriage to George Boleyn, Jane is drawn into the future of his family and their advancement...and as Anne Boleyn catches the eye of the King, Jane becomes part of the tempest about to be unleashed upon England.

This is a well written account of Jane Rochford with interesting details and descriptions giving an insight into the times of the Tudors. It is a shame that such a childish voice was chosen for the narration. Jane Rochford has been both vilified and praised throughout history and this account depicts her as a strong and perceptive woman. However her character does not come through with this narration. Galena should stick to children’s books and not attempt strong characters of history. Many times I almost gave up but the writing of the author G Lawrence saw me persist to the end. I should have simply read the novel myself.

Poor choice of Narrator

I was so keen to get into this story as I love the historical character of Jane Boleyn, but the ‘performance’ has been putting me off the whole way through. To put on a baby voice to embody such richly defined and well written characters is a significant enough distraction to bring you right out of the story. Once you get through the continued pronouncement of ‘Buckingham’ you’re over the worst but it doesn’t get any better to the end.

Poor narration is a struggle

This seemed like it could be a good story with an interesting perspective on the Tudor court as well as an insight into one of the most interesting women from that time, however the writing was somewhat lacking and the whole was unfortunately ruined by the narrator, who made it sound as though you were listening to the diary of a ten year old girl. I couldn’t stick it out, a real shame.

Could not finish due to narrator

Probably a good book if not for the narration. Though seen as the villain sometimes, I’d have expected a more stronger voice narrating this. Narration sounds more naive and not a seasoned courtier

Lovely take on the story though almost had to give up on narration. George Boleyn sounding like a cockney lad was just about too much.

Narrator hard to listen to.
