Publisher's Summary

World-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck, in decades of research on achievement and success, has discovered a truly groundbreaking idea - the power of our mindset.

Dweck explains why it's not just our abilities and talent that bring us success but whether we approach them with a fixed or growth mindset. She makes clear why praising intelligence and ability doesn't foster self-esteem and lead to accomplishment but may actually jeopardise success. With the right mindset, we can motivate our kids and help them to raise their grades as well as reach our own goals - personal and professional. Dweck reveals what all great parents, teachers, CEOs and athletes already know: how a simple idea about the brain can create a love of learning and a resilience that is the basis of great accomplishment in every area.

Narrator sounds robotic

The content is great, the narration... not great. I persevered as Dweck is onto something with the growth mindset idea. Please have someone else ‘perform’ this audiobook.

Fantastic book. Sadly narrator sounded robotic.

After reading the paper book first I knew it was great. As soon as it came on Audible I wanted to listen to it over and over. I struggled to really listen as I was distracted by the narrator as she sounded robotic and she was annoying. I got through it once. I will not listen to it through this narrator again. I would prefer to read the book myself not listen to a robotic voice. I would love another narrator to read this book as it is that good and this book deserves a better narrator.

listen at 1.3-1.5x speed to remove Robot vibes

Really important information in this book, possibly the most important book I have ever read. i see a lot of comments about the narrator - I listen to books at 1.5x speed and I didnt notice her sounding like a r9bot but when I changed to 1x speed I see what people are talking about. Its because she is so slow and leaves gaps between words. Just speed it up to your preference and that problem will go away so you can focus on the content.

great book, but robotic voice was annoying

the material covered in this book is explained well and definitely thought provoking for me as an individual, partner, parent and healthcare professional. I did find the narrators voice a bit android like, not sure if it was a real person or AI but spoiled the experience for me.

Great idea, doesn’t translate outside USA

Great topic and idea but I don’t live in the USA and I’m not that into sports. Most (almost all) of the reference examples were sporting examples (baseball, basketball etc). I feel these examples were too simplified and I found myself tuning out every time another sporting example was used. I would love to see more corporate examples :-)

The narration really needs to be redone

The content is not bad but is a tough listen with such robotic, monotone narration

Growth Mindset outperforms Fixed Mindset.

A bit like the optimist sees opportunity in times of difficulty the person with a Growth Mindset analyses each situation to improve their journey to success while a person with Fixed Mindset can be anxious in reproving their value to exist. The book has a great collection of real life stories covering achievements & failures from business to sport. It backs this up with data looking at both nature & nurture in terms of natural-ability/growth-or-fixed-mindset/hard-work.
