Publisher's Summary

"Listeners will be transported to the small Southern town of Wicklow by the drawls and laid-back pacing of the narrators.... This is a beautiful story of family, love, and forgiveness." (AudioFile Magazine, Earphones Award winner)

Heather Webber's Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe is a captivating blend of magical realism, heartwarming romance, and small-town Southern charm.

Nestled in the mountain shadows of Alabama lies the little town of Wicklow. It is here that Anna Kate has returned to bury her beloved Granny Zee, owner of the Blackbird Café.

It was supposed to be a quick trip to close the café and settle her grandmother’s estate, but despite her best intentions to avoid forming ties or even getting to know her father’s side of the family, Anna Kate finds herself inexplicably drawn to the quirky Southern town her mother ran away from so many years ago, and the mysterious blackbird pie everybody can’t stop talking about.

As the truth about her past slowly becomes clear, Anna Kate will need to decide if this lone blackbird will finally be able to take her broken wings and fly.

Relaxing, interesting, sweet.

Very enjoyable book, interesting subject, nothing to dread or get upset about. Fabulous readers. I’ll buy other titles from this author.. I’m tired of murders, kidnappings, and all kinds of violence in my audiobooks. This one is like a balm, without getting cloying on romance, or boring on nothing happening. I sincerely recommend it,

Solid 3 Star

Being a southerner myself I appreciated the feel of this story. The female narrators did an excellent job on the southern twang and made it feel very authentic. The story however I feel like was just predictable. I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I kept waiting on something to happen, but it didn’t really. The story just continued on in the same “tone”. I was really hoping for an epilogue too. I didn’t hate it but was left just feeling meh.

Sappy, predictable and unnecessarily long !

A contrived story with such long rambling dialog and implausible situations that I struggled to stay interested. I was tempted to quit so many times, but stuck it out because of favorable reviews. In the end, I found it sappy, predictable and unnecessarily long.

Sweet, warm and engaging.

The characters are endearing and the story, as another review reported, is like a warm blanket. Sometimes its wonderful to just have all the endings work out and all the pieces fall into place.

Borrrrrring!!! Can’t finish. Returned.

I honestly believe that some people are paid to post reviews that are raving. This book started off with some promise but fell flat and never recouped. Anna Kate’s voice will put you to sleep but she does fantastic speaking other characters. Natalies voice was perfect but again, the story line never picked up and kept my interest. I listened for nearly 4 more hours after I had declared this to myself but hoped it would get more interesting. ZZZZZzzzzzz

Sweet as pie!

Although this is not my typical genre, it was definitely a feel good book, and who can't use a little more of that?

Discovery, Letting Go, Forgiveness, and Love

Midnight at the Blackbird Cafe would make a great movie and I hope that it becomes one so that it will reach a broader audience. Important lessons and thought provoking challenges are folded into this seemingly simple story. As the story progresses, the writing becomes stronger which is pretty rare these days. The performances by Stehpanie Willis, Bethany Lind, and Nicholas Techosky are very solid and entertaining. They each enhance the strength of the overall work. I would definitely recommend this book to all who are interested in learning more about themselves, about love, about forgiveness, letting go, and finding where and who they want to be in the world.

Southern Hospitality

I absolutely loved this book! Being raised in Alabama myself , I totally relate to how people in the South treat each other with kindness known as southern hospitality.

The detail in this book on the characters made me feel like I was back at home in Alabama enjoying a glass of sweet tea on the front porch in a rocking chair. The Roll Tide part from Bow was perfect. The only thing this book needed was a Roll Tide greeting.

This is a southern drama filled with questions about what happened the day Anna Kate's mother and father were driving and somehow wrecked ending in tragedy. Anna Kate inherits the Blackbird Cafe and has to make a few decisions that could change her life forever.

This is my new favorite book this year and possibly the best I will read! Amazing storytelling by Heather Webber and I can't wait to read more books by this author.

Narration made it even that much more immersive bringing out all the accents in a delightful fashion!

Slow and steady

This story unwinds very gently around the characters in a small town. Don’t be in a hurry even though some of the detail is tedious. Satisfying ending and very well read.
