What if . . .

What if Charlotte didn't decide to come out in Those Who Wait? What if she and Sutton didn't get back together? How would that one decision alter the course of their lives, forever?

Charlotte Thompson appears to have it all—by forty, her political plans are panning out exactly as she'd always hoped. Now a senator, she quietly came out a couple of years ago, and she's on-track to fulfilling everything she'd ever dreamed of. Perhaps she is a little lonely sometimes, but as the saying goes: it's lonely at the top.

Sutton Spencer has finally found her footing after her divorce. She's a tenured literature professor, she loves her daughter more than anything, and she's accepted the harsh truth of the world: maybe she simply isn't meant to find lasting romantic love.

They've both put their ill-fated affair from over a decade ago behind them, until a surprise reunion results in their paths intertwining once more.

Maybe some things are meant to be in every universe . . .

I honestly enjoyed very much this book. The story is so romantic and I enjoyed it even more than Those who wait. Even though it represents they didn’t have a happy ending in the first book. This one talks about romance and priorities. I truly cry with the letters read in the foundation.
Charlotte is a character so well developed in this book. Congratulations to Haley Cass. Lori puts all the feels, definitely I enjoyed the audiobook better.

I loved the story.

Honestly, I was hesitant to read this at first, with “Those Who Wait” holding such a precious place in the sapphic library nestled in my heart. But somehow, although I shouldn’t be surprised by Cass at this point, this was possibly even better, bringing the raw messy imperfection of life! “Midnight Rain” is hands down the best second chance romance I have ever read. It is unrushed, believable, completely endearing, and doesn’t shy away from the ‘what-ifs’ that are impossible to not be haunted by when living with the consequences of past decisions.

Sutton and Charlotte’s chemistry is unparalleled and as always both are heart-meltingly loveable. The generous ending was refreshing in a world where most romances would have already wrapped up the story - and absolutely perfect. Despite this, I was still not ready to close the last page on Charlotte and Sutton, who have undoubtedly cemented their status as sapphic romance royalty.

Narration: it’s been said before, I’ve said it before, honestly how can it not be said - but Cass and Prince are a match made in heaven. Prince’s narration is perfection.

Oh. My. Gosh. This was heartachingly good.

I wasn’t sure I’d enjoy this version of Sutton & Charlotte’s story, but wow, I loved it even more than Those Who Wait.

Wow!
