Old friend Marty O'Bannon, San Francisco Homicide Detective, calls FBI Agent Zack Tolliver early one morning for advice. O'Bannon is at the scene of a murder, the victim's throat ravaged as if by an animal, and no clues to the killer. He now has three particularly vicious unsolved murders, all with the same MO.
