I love Ali Hazelwood's work, but really struggled with this one. I'm not sure if it's the male narration or the way the MMC is written, but the gender dynamics felt unhealthy rather than endearing. The male narrator's voice felt like it dripped with derision for a surprisingly long time in the narrative arc, and made his character hard to get behind. I may source a hardcopy to see if it feels different to read, but found the audio version hard listening. The voice actor for Serena did a wonderful job.

This gave me the same giddy feeling I felt when I read twilight for the very first time as a teenager. I’m simply obsessed with everything Ali writes and mate is no exception! This woman truly has no bad books!

I enjoyed being immersed in this world again after Bride. I do find Serena a bit whiney at times with her self talk but could overlook it.
Great plot twists and flow to the storyline. Koen is an awesome alpha!

This book is beautiful in every way. I didn’t think Bride could be topped but Serena and Koen are everything and more. The banter, the heart…perfectly narrated in duet. 👌

OMG!! I am dying over how much I loved this book! Absolutely unbelievably unputdownable! UGH it was so so good and the audiobook was phenomenal! It being in duet just made it exponentially perfect. The narrators just were the best choices. They nailed it.

Koen is grumpy and sarcastic and I loved him so so much. Then his banter with Serena was everything. The way he just was with her, absolute swoon. The tension, the chemistry, the spice! It’s such a achingly good slow burn. PERFECTION. And Serena I loved too, she was so funny and I felt for her so much.

Then there was the actual story and the mystery of things, the incredible side characters and like I said, couldn’t put it down. It has all the good tropes. Might be my fave of Ali’s.

Thanks Ali, even with my high expectations, you absolutely smashed it. Balanced well with the right amount of plot, romance, character development and all the things, I just wish I could give it more than 5 stars. also, omfg the narration was perfection. 👌 so freaking good
