Story
The first drops start to fall when Quinn spies the body. With no reception and nothing but an empty road for miles, does she stop to help or keep driving to safety? Back at the iconic country pub where Quinn works, Andrea is sandbagging the place in preparation for heavy rains. Alone with her sleeping son in the back room, she reluctantly lets a biker in to wait out the storm. Out on the wet roads, tensions arise among four backpackers on their way to Darwin. They haven’t prepared for this kind of weather and the flooding isn’t the only threat on the horizon.

Publisher's Summary
The first book in the explosive Mantra 6 thriller series featuring Operative John Devereaux - soon to be a major motion picture.
How far would you go to protect your country?
John Devereaux, an SAS warrant officer, is seconded to the Australian Secret Intelligence Service and handed a mission that will test him to his very core. The operationally deniable mission: infiltrate into Cambodia via parachute from 37,000 feet in the dead of night and assassinate two high-value targets, alone, and with dozens of enemy soldiers in his way.
From the relentless jungles of Cambodia to the chaotic streets of Sydney and Bangkok, to the secretive dens of Moscow and the extravagant French Riviera, explosive SAS and ASIS action uncovers a shadowy and powerful organisation that brings us face-to-face with the Russian Mafia.
Unbeknown to Devereaux, the director-general of the Secret Intelligence Service, Magnus Webb, is testing him for a far more important role - to head an off-the-books clandestine cell buried deep inside this secret organisation and known only as Mantra-6.
Devereaux’s mission has only just begun....

Outstanding
An outstanding book that I enjoyed immensely. Very refreshing to read a book where the author gets the technical aspects pertaining to weapons correct. The author’s experience and knowledge makes this novel very believable. Great effort.

So, so good
Well, to tell the truth, I read an article in my local rag about Russel Hutchings' first book Brimstone. I thought to myself " Support the hometown boy, go on." It was the right decision because it's one of those un putdownable books. It is very well written and has well rounded characters. I haven't even finished reading it but just had to spread the word. I am already looking forward to the next one.
Dorje Swallow does a fantastic job as the narrator, by the way and I'm going to look for some more books that he has narrated.
Thanks boys.
