Publisher's Summary

Nearly everything in Gregory’s life had changed by the end of his first year at the academy. Alone at the start of his novice year, he’d gotten engaged to Yukiko Warlin and found a friend in Jenn Bean by the time the annual tournament was over.

The three of them went on to join Aether’s Guard, bringing the name of the nearly dead clan back to life. Elder Lightshield, the leader of Aether’s Guard, gave them his support and backing and Magus Dia guided them. Their training with Armsmaster Gin continued, offering a safe haven and helping to shield them from the worst tribulations that academy life could bring.

Nothing is perfect, though. Gregory, Yukiko, and Jenn had also made enemies, and faced resentment and anger from the Eternal Flame clan more than once. Weathering the troubles that Nick Shun and his friends tried to bring down on them, the three magi rose to ever greater heights.

Gregory’s second tournament included the unexpected, but welcome, arrival of Carmichael Pettit, as well as a mysterious bet between Jenn and Yukiko. At the end of the tournament, Jenn had bested Yukiko and Gregory, and the three of them held three of the top four places.

With both of their families in attendance, Gregory and Yukiko wed after the tournament. The newlywed couple would face the academy and the world as one, and with their friends and their clan, they would strive to be at the pinnacle of their class once more.

This book contains some adult themes.

Love the series so far. Can't wait for the sequal and to see how the various characters develop.

Disappointing

The series started off so well. Great characters and world building if a little cringy with all the feelings flying around. But turned into a harem novel with next to no storyline and complete character personality changes which came across as completely unrealistic. Sorry but no cigar on this one.

nothing burger with a little of slice of life

I just realised after halfway through this book that nothing has happened in this series no real struggles that aren't quickly solved through easy and unsatisfying wins.

One of the major clans is out for them but every challenge is like batting away a fly no-sacrifice has happened no hardships, and there doesn't seem to be any stakes for the MC, the clan that he is in has fallen to almost nothing but can protect them and even non-clan members with no issue it doesn't make sense, it also doesn't help that the MC has a bottomless pit of money to buy whatever item he needs for the fight a few chapters later.

the romance in this has the same problem that almost all romance in books, tv and movies there's no evolution past the honeymoon phase and the same declarations of dedication while indearing in the first book just become stale and cringe.

I think it's the performance of the reader that has kept me going it's fantastic and the bloopers at the end are amazing love hearing the process and will be on the lookout for her in future.

What's the story really about?

If you after a book about great magic fights, adventures and really good character development. THEN DONT READ THIS BOOK. Most of the book is about teenage love and in a cringe way at that characters are very one dimensional have no depth after listening to over 100 different series of fantasy books. I don't understand why so many people gave this book a good review.

No longer fun

i was fond of this series but was getting over the constant co-dependent relationship, which has only gotten worse with the transition to Polygamoy. Also, very little happened plot wise. Disappointing.
