Publisher's Summary

"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes.

A do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries-old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a little while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is: something I never would've thought possible.

As my new life begins, a couple of things become immediately clear: Forty isn't too old for adventure. Not by half. It is too old to take crap from anyone, however, or care what people think.

I had no idea how incredibly freeing that could be. Or how dangerous this new life would become.

I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

hilarious

As a nearly 40yo single mum I really loved this book. I'm delighted to find an author who has written a comedic fantasy novel for my generation. I loved this story so much I finished it within 3 days. I enjoyed the characters and their quirky personalities, their imperfections and smart mouth jibes at eachother. Their unique abilities. This is a refreshing take on the supernatural genre. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Laugh out loud. Fun ride. Great characters.

Great to have an older female lead. Must have looked like a lunatic laughing on the train, particularly at Mr Tom who is funny and endearingly weird.

LOVED IT!!

This was a fantastic story and narration! The author’s description of the house and townsfolk were so detailed I felt I was right there with Jacinta. Each supporting character has such uniqueness and quirks which added to the laughs. I felt very empowered as a 40-year-old woman reading Jacinta’s story and it made me realise my worth as she learnt hers. I felt quite sad when it ended as I wanted more 😊 What a great start to what I’m sure will be a new favourite series!!!

Hilariously mad and entertaining

Non-stop listen. Loved the wackiness and the sidekick characters were a hoot. Highly recommend if you like magic, mayhem and slow burning romance. Bonus if, like me, you're a Nicole Poole fan. She once again brings the story and characters to life with her voice acting and range. Double bonus if, like me, you're a middle-aged woman looking for a story that highlights the strength, wisdom and common sense we mature woman have garnered with age. Hearing a book that acknowledges middle age as natural, not something that needs to be completely reversed is refreshing. K F Breene - YOU ROCK!

NOoOOooo! It's Over

WOW, just wow. where to begin. First of all it's over. 😭😭😭 WHEN is the next one coming out, because I will be hoovering that one too. So, first thought about Magical Midlife Madness is holy cats it is hilarious!! So many times I laughed out loud and caused side eyes from my husband and my kids. At one point I was laughing so hard I was crying and crossing my legs so I wouldn't piddle myself. Second thought is that it is an amazing story! I love how powerful the main character is. She might second guess herself here and there, but she knows who she is, and she is amazing. Thirdly, Niamh is hilarious! And the play between Mr. Tom, Niamh, and Edgar is extremely awesome/hilarious/sweet. All that being said I LOVED this book, I would recommend to anyone, and cannot wait for the next book!!

A house to watch out for.

Great story, enveloping, making one want more. Mind the begonias. The first in a new series, unfortunately the rest aren't up for preorder yet. This story is fun, funny and amazing. The world is amazing, it really draws you in. The world is very well crafted, quite believable.

For angry women who hate their life choices

I didn’t even get past the first chapter. Although I’m only 33, I was excited to read a book about mature women starting over. This book seems targeting for women who hate their ex-husbands. The women who married emotionally abusive men, and stayed there... and then when they were tossed aside, they “found a fresh start.” I’m not here for husband bashing. But if you hate your husband and the life choices you made, the first 15 minutes is defiantly for you.

LMAO everyone that is middle age need to listen

Cant wait for the next one in the series, I laughed my head off and all my husband could do was ask what are you laughing at. Wives that been married for a while can totally relate to this main character. Excellent story and excellent narrator. Love it I even went back and listen to it a second time and I normally do not give out reviews easily.

Magically brilliant!

What a breath of fresh midlife air! As usual the narrator, Nicole Poole, did not disappoint in her delivery of another wonderful tale. This was my first K.F. breene book and I can’t wait to get the rest of these in my ears! The story itself is amazing and made more so with a great narrator.

Lovely Crazy Fun

This is a fun, laugh-your-socks-off, easy read! Classic K.F. Breene! Humor, wit, real people with real people problems dealing with a unique twist of fantasy. Excellently Narrated. When I finished the book, I almost cried that there isn’t a sequel.... yet. Thank God that K.F. Breene is a fast writer, cause I am hooked, line and sinker, to her books!

I Loved This Story - It Ticked Every Box!

I'm already a fan of K. F. Breene's books and her writing style. Her stories tick every box for me; intelligent writing style that's easy to read, main characters with depth of personality that I can connect to and believe in, depth of character in the supporting cast, believable background story and setting and a balanced mix of relationship, tension, action, humour and mystery. As a menopausal woman, I love that this series will have an older protagonist and supporting characters. I've listened to audiobooks narrated by Nicole Poole before and loved her performance - Magical Midlife Madness was no exception. I loved the pace at which she read the book and how she poured in the relevant emotion for the different scenes. There is a strong core cast of characters in this story, Nicole's performance brought each of them to life, showcasing their personalities while giving them each suitably different voices when reading the dialogue. Due to the graphic nature of some of the more violent scenes, I would recommend this book to adults who aren't offended by this sort of thing. But if you enjoy a sort of second coming-of-age for older, independent, capable heroines and strong alpha heroes, with a generous helping of banter, humour and realistic issues for the over 40s within a paranormal adventure, then this book may be your next favourite read. It's certainly left me wanting to read the next book - Magical Midlife Dating - and check out the other books available in the Paranormal Women's Fiction (PWF) genre.

Nice story, narration could be better

I like the energetic can-do of the heroine, story was good. However, the narrator has a tendency to rattle off her words like she needs to cram a quota in every minute, so the story suffers, becoming monotonous and unfeeling. Could do better.

Let down by narrator

Honestly - if you happen across a word you're unfamiliar with, you could,,, I don't know... look it up ousing one of the many online prounication guides.that are available these days. For example "draughts" is not pronouned "drorts" it's pronounced "draafts". {sigh} You'd think someone involved in the recording process would point this sort of thing out to the narrator.... but apparently not. The story's not bad, although the whole muscles-as-hard-as-rocks writing style is tediously overblown.

Loved it

Absolutely loved this book. Even sat down in the living room, tv off so I could find out how it ends. So lovely to have a book that focuses on us slightly older ladies that still want to live in the world of fantasy 🥰 Well done K F Breene, time to listen to your whole catalogue xx

Enjoyable enough

Great book, loads of fun. Had me laughing out loud. The narrator leaves something to be desired, fine for the most part but for the love of all that is holy Niamh is pronounced Neeve not Nee-ave and when one of the main characters is called Niamh it grates on ones nerves to hear it mispronounced 500 times throughout the book. Easily remedied as well, all the narrator had to do was look it up instead of butchering a fairly well know Irish name. Most everything else was lovely. Breene is a master.
