"Happily Ever After" wasn't supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of 20 years packs up and heads for greener pastures, and my son heads away to college, that's exactly what my midlife becomes.

A do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at 40 I'm ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I'll be taking care of a centuries-old house that called to me when I was a kid. It's just temporary, I tell myself. It'll just be for a little while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is: something I never would've thought possible.

As my new life begins, a couple of things become immediately clear: Forty isn't too old for adventure. Not by half. It is too old to take crap from anyone, however, or care what people think.

I had no idea how incredibly freeing that could be. Or how dangerous this new life would become.

I enjoyed the premise...having the heroine be 40, and discovering a whole new side to life and purpose for herself. magical storyline well thought through and not too crazy, very entertaining support cast, great narration. have to say though, I don't think author needed to make 40 sound almost decrepit- its not my personal experience. honestly, made her physically sound more like closer to 70. 40 isn't old any more!

This book was definitely not what I was expecting but was maybe what I needed. It was light hearted funny and a little different in all the right ways.

I loved this story so much! It had me in stitches of laughter on numerous occasions which naturally garnered me some odd looks from my work colleagues. Was definitely worth reading/listening to.

Bring on more 40 year old heroines!!! Never have I laughed so much listening to a book. The humour is witty if not a little dry and totally relatable. The Characters are great and as always Nicole Poole brings them to life in a way only she can. I can’t wait for the rest of the series!

I really enjoyed this first book in the series 🤍 basically it’s about a woman in her 40’s who life changes and she moves away, coming into magical abilities and finding some new unlikely friends along the way. I am up to book 4 already! Definitely recommend this series for a light supernatural, romance with a few laughs along the way, had me laughing out loud more then a few time 😂
