About this listen

All roads lead back home.

Billy Connolly may be a citizen of the world, but in his heart he's never been far from his homeland. Made in Scotland is Billy's unique and intimate portrait of his native Scotland, a love letter to the places and people that made him.

It's an adventure inspired by a single incident: the moment Billy received his Knighthood and was asked, 'How does it feel to have achieved all this when you came from nothing?' His response was, 'But I did come from something!' So begins an odyssey through the Highlands, the Lowlands and the Barrowlands on a shaggy dog quest to find out what that 'something' was and whether it is still there.

Far from a typical travelogue, Billy’s quest is as much through his memories and experiences as it is through his excursions, with a series of key artefacts prompting reminiscences - a first pressing of a Hank Williams album (the first record he ever owned), Landseer’s Monarch of the Glen, a bottle of air that re-creates the smell of the old Glasgow Docks - each of which inspire moments of reflection, joy, drama and laughter.

Accompanying a major BBC TV series, Made in Scotland is Billy Connolly's insightful, moving and very funny account of the stuff that really matters. Family, love, sex, health, football, fishing, work, art, swearing, banjos, friends, going to the pub. And good tea.

The Big Yin and his Life through his own words

Having been a fan of Billy Connolly for over 13 years now I thought I knew all there was to know. I have watched all his live performances and the documentaries he has made including Around The World Tour Series.
I have even read the two books written by his wife however listening to this book was different because instead of being told Billy like by someone else were getting told by the man himself.

I really enjoyed this book and well worth your time and like myself you may learn a thing or two you didn't know.

Pleasant. A tad overrated.

I am a fan of Billy, who isn’t but the book is pleasantly entertaining at best. A few tales and learn a bit about his past and his proud Scottish heritage. It’s nice enough

Made In Scotland

Loved this book and all Billy’s stories of the past as I was born in Paisley which he mentions on several occasions and his stories are similar to those that my mum used to tell also. Have always loved Billy. Such natural talent. I will read the book again for sure. I only wish Billy had narrates it himself but the narrator did well to be fair to him.

Its Billy Bloomin' Connolly

This really was a raw and open biography of one man who has walked a variety of different paths in his life, but took each opportunity to learn, understand and grow himself as much as his sense of humour allowed him to share the realness of so many experiences he has. Billy has always been open about being a man who grew up in hard times, worked hard in ofen hazardous situations, grew in his indentity in himself while his fame also grew and expanded his musical and spoken skills that he brought. A journey that is indie at heart, Billy's story talks of being the outrageously carefree wildling who enjoyed a good night out and a good adventure while not at the expense of values or a good yarn. Narrated so nicely by another Scottsman, Kennedy channels that typical larrikin Billy is as he tells Billy's story in the same colourful manner and tone. A lovely read, and one that had me laugh out loud at times.

A good read

As a Scot who left many years ago, I really enjoyed this book and was interested in his early years in Glasgow, one of my favourite cities. The stories of the Scottish entertainers of the past and annual holidays brought back memories and I laughed out loud at some of his stories.
