About this listen
From the author of TikTok sensations and global bestsellers The Love Hypothesis and Love on the Brain.
Rival physicists collide in a vortex of academic feuds and fake dating shenanigans in this delightfully STEMinist romcom.
The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she's an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs.
Honestly, it's a pretty sweet gig - until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down. Because Jack Smith, the annoyingly attractive and arrogant older brother of her favourite client, turns out to be the cold-hearted experimental physicist who ruined her mentor's career and undermined the reputation of theorists everywhere. And he's the same Jack Smith who rules over the physics department at MIT, standing right between Elsie and her dream job.
Elsie is prepared for an all-out war of scholarly sabotage but...those long, penetrating looks? Not having to be anything other than her true self when she's with him? Will falling into an experimentalist's orbit finally tempt her to put her most guarded theories on love into practice?

"Ali Hazelwood proves that science is sexy as hell, and that love can 'STEM' from the most unlikely places. She's my newest must-buy author." (Jodi Picoult)
I felt this story

Elise is fully thought out, she’s an incredible protagonist. Jack is desirable and makes such a beautiful love interest.
I adore this, from start to finish, I wish there was more, I feel sad it’s over.
Ali Hazelwood’s best one yet!

I wish all audio books are done by her. Makes the storyline far more interesting!
Ten stars for the narrator

Best one so far

It's a very predictable storyline, I guessed all major plot points chapters before they occurred, but it was still a fun and cute little listen. I really liked that this book also focused on personal development and finding confidence in yourself as a major plot-line.
This story is different enough from Hazelwood's other books that it didn't feel like a re-read either, even if there were some similar tropes (patient, mountainous men and anxious, flighty STEM heroines anyone?).
Finally, Hazelwood, please give us a spin-off about George's love story!
Loved the narrator

STORY - I have to say, Ali Hazelwood does AMAZING "guy falls early on and just adores and pines and is wonderful" which is my kinda guy. I've read a few of her works now and I am absolutely hooked
It does follow the trope of fake dating (kinda, she fake dates his brother) and of course there is the classic conflict that drags the story through often resolved by a conversation - however in the case, the reason they don't discuss things is plausible and somewhat logical. it didn't create frustration, infact "ignoring" the conflict allowed them to grow together and find themselves. in other stories, it is often the instigator of more and more issues and just becomes painfull to read and experience with the characters. but refreshingly, not here!
CHARACTERS - Elsie as the lead is FACINATING! I envy her skills at reading people, and I understand why she has become the way she is. How she "problem solves" like literally everything inc life and people and work creates this amazing momentum in the story, and opertunity for her to naturally grow and find herself.
and provides authentic reasoning behind her decisions, where she is in life, her relationships. Brilliant. I could say more, but don't need to spoil too much
ACTORS - The narrator is Therese Plummer and my gosh, my new favourite!! she does great at both guys and girls voices, but inparticularly she isn't reading. she is acting. with Elsie gasps, she gasps. honestly, FUDGING AMAZING WORK will have to listen to her other work, loved it!
I would give more than 5 stars!
