A fake relationship can’t fix a broken heart...right?

I’ve been in love with my best friend, Eli, forever, and I was all set to confess my feelings...until he showed up at my birthday party with someone else. I would have died on the spot if Rome hadn’t pulled me close, kissed me, and told everyone we’d secretly been dating for months. Except we’re not boyfriends. And until that night we’d never even kissed.

When my family finds out about our supposed relationship, we have to play along. Spending time with Rome is easy and fun. And our fake kisses are hot enough to set my body on fire.

Could it be real with Rome? I don’t want to screw up our friendship, but his touch makes me want more. I waited too long before, and I can’t risk losing Rome. Not when what I feel is so much stronger than I ever expected.

So how can we make this fake relationship real? And how do we make it last forever?

A sweet fake dating friends to lovers romance!

I absolutely love this series!

This was one of my favorites and it can be enjoyed as a standalone.

I loved this friends to lovers, low angst fake dating romance.

Rome and Grady made an amazing couple and I was rooting for them from the start.

The narration was fairly enjoyable and an easy listen.

Enjoying this series

This one was a doozy, up down , and all around. Eli needed to be strangled in my opinion, Grady a swift kick in the pants, and poor Rome a medal.

Love is complicated!

This one in the series has a world of angst going on! Grady loves his longtime friend Eli, but the love isn’t reciprocated. Meanwhile Rome has loved Grady for years without that love being returned. So when Eli turns up at Grady’s birthday party with a new boyfriend in tow both of these worlds collide. Grady is understandably devastated in that moment and Rome hates to see him hurt like that, so he jumps in to tell Rome he’s Grady’s boyfriend. Rome is gorgeous, he’s a really sweet, caring, sensitive man with an absolute heart of gold. Hands down he’s my favourite character in this book. He also has incredible patience and his patience with Grady along with his nurturing nature eventually makes Grady see that his future lies with Rome. Rome’s announcement at the party makes Eli step back and think, and I don’t mean think in a good way. He didn’t think about the amazing opportunity he’d missed with Grady, but instead he realised how much he enjoyed Grady’s enduring love and devotion. I found Eli narcissistic, his world revolves around himself and he likes other people’s worlds to revolve around him too. He’s also a master manipulator and reels poor Grady in only to push him away again time after time. So now Grady’s with Rome he makes it his mission to get Grady back to where he likes him, at his beck and call. It almost felt like a battle of magnets with Eli at one side and Rome at the other with both of them exerting a force over Grady - one for his own wishes and the other to protect Grady. Grady himself I didn’t find to be a strong character, there were times his lack of backbone frustrated me, but there were other times I realised he’d been so controlled by Eli for years that he had lost the ability to step back and consider what he himself needs and what is right for him. It was a great story, but did have a lot of angst.

In love with my best friend

Third book of the series so far. Love the Caldwell family! Grady is in love with his best friend Eli, Rome is in love with his best friend Grady, Grady depends on Rome to have his back always, Eli is a jerk. Thankfully Grady gets hit with the reality stick where Eli is concerned and Rome steps in to claim his man. I just love Grady and Rome together, they fit. Eli needs to grow up and become a useful human being. Throw in the rest of the Caldwell family and you have another hit!

Another amazing Cauldwell Bros Book!

I have to admit up front that this is one of my favorite series so I am a bit bias but the way it is brought to life by the narrator is the icing on the cake!!! Rome has been in love with Grady since they were teenagers but never confessed - content to be friends as Grady was in love with Eli. But when Eli gets engaged it’s Rome to the rescue to pretend to be Grady’s boyfriend. Only maybe now Rome is ready to confess to Grady his feelings and hope maybe he feels the same. Some ups and downs but Rome’s best friend Coop had it right when he told Rome to “go get his man”

Loved this one

I was given a free audio copy from the author and the GRR arc team for review.

4.5 stars

Grady has been in love with Eli secretly since school. He wants to finally confess his love at his birthday party. Eli unfortunately chooses that time to abnounce he's engaged leaving Grady shocked and heartbroken. So to save face Rome kisses him and tells his family and friends they have been dating for months. Rome has been secretly in love with Grady for 20 years and hopes maybe now he can win him over.

This can be read as a standalone. I have only read book 6 before this one. I enjoyed that one but this one was alot better.

This was a sweet read that I will definitely listen to again and definitely recommend. I'll be sure to read the rest of the series.

Narrator had a pleasant reading voice. He did a great performance and expressed the emotions well. I did have to speed up the pace a little and I do wish the voices were a little more distinct among the characters but overall I enjoyed it.

Fake Dating Friends-to-Lovers Story w/Immature MCs

Helping Grady save face at his birthday party after longtime crush Eli arrives with a new fiance, Rome makes the split decision to pose as his boyfriend. Their surprise kiss leads to an even more surprising romantic connection for the two longtime friends, as they agree to keep up the pretense by fake dating and before long it becomes all too real.

Grady and Rome make a steamy couple, but their getting together would've been all the more compelling had Eli not been so irredeemably awful on all levels. Actually, despite being in their 30s, everyone came across as pretty immature. And why Grady has spent decades not-so-secretly pining for someone so manipulative, selfish and deliberately hurtful remains a mystery.

Narrator Austin Jay gave an ok performance here, without much variation between character voices. I received this free review copy audio book by request and have left this honest review voluntarily.

Grady Caldwell's Fake-Boyfriends Romance

Grady has loved Eli since their boarding-school days. At his 32nd birthday celebration, Grady has mustered the courage to tell Eli about his feelings, but his plans are crushed when Eli arrives with Benji in tow and an engagement announcement. Rome swoops in to save Grady by pretending to be Grady's boyfriend. Can the two best friends maintain their fake relationship through family dinners and double dates, or will it turn into something more?

This book demonstrates the reason I've read many Ali Lyda and Aiden Bates novels. The authors, either singly or in collaboration, get the characters interacting early in the story. The men get to know one another, discuss mundane things and have sweet little dates. You know, like regular people do. I like the feeling that these guys could be living in my town and just down the street. And, except for sometimes adding a bit of internal angst near the end of their books, there's no overwrought drama and emotion. If you like your romances told in this fashion, then you'll find this book and the entire 'Caldwell Brothers' series enjoyable, satisfying reads.

I've listened to several Austin Jay narrations too. I like his performances quite a lot. He tailors his delivery appropriately to each story's emotional level.

'Love Lessons' is an audiobook that I requested as a free review copy. I've provided this voluntary opinion after having received and listened to it.

Recommended.

Grady & Rome

After finishing book 2 in this series I was really excited for Grady and Rome's story and I was not disappointed. What starts out as a fake relationship to help Grady save face when confronted with Eli's engagement, turns into so much more. I really like Grady and Rome together and it was wonderful watching their relationship grow throughout the story. Their chemistry and connection are incredible and you can really feel it. The narrator did a great job with the story and all of the characters. I voluntarily reviewed a gifted copy of this audio book.

I love the Caldwell brothers

I'm loving this series so far. Gray has been hopelessly in love with one of his best friends, Eli for as long as he can remember but when Eli shows up with a new fiance in tow Rome steps in as a pretend boyfriend.
I loved watching the relationship between Gray and Rome grow, this is such a good best friends to lovers / fake relationship story and Eli is a great love to hate character.

An adorable friends-to-lovers romance

Best-friends-to-lovers books are some of my all-time favorites, and I thought Grady and Rome's story was particularly sweet! Austin Jay was the perfect narrator to bring these men's story to life--his engaging voice and passionate delivery made it hard to put this audio down. Every time Eli did something jerkish and annoying, Rome was right there trying to keep Grady in good spirits. As a third-party observer, it was incredibly obvious what a bad friend Eli was, but he and Grady had such a long-lasting friendship that I also understood how hard it was for him to see it. Whatever Eli's deal was, it was Rome who had me swooning left and right with his adorable flirting and sweet thoughtfulness. As he and Grady started to explore how they could take their friendship to the next level, it was all the little interactions they shared that convinced me of their growing affection. Whether it was Rome delivering sweet treats to Grady's work or Grady making sure Rome had a healthy meal after a long day, these two had a wonderful companionship that translated into fiery hot chemistry. Listening to Rome and Grady build each other up was the only thing that kept my annoyance with Eli at bay, and when Grady finally stood up for himself I wanted to cheer out loud. I didn't really understand the miscommunication that led to their one and only fight, but thankfully these two didn't keep me in suspense for long. After finishing their delightful love story, there's no doubt in my mind that Grady and Rome have what it takes to make each other happy for life.

A brilliant addition to the series by Aiden Bates and Ali Lyda. A great ride with Grady and Rome of personal growth and opening your eyes to what is really there. Austin Jay did a super job with the narration.

Love this series

What a mess poor Grady's love life is! He has been wanting a relationship with Eli forever, but he can't see that Eli is a real jerk who has been manipulating his emotions and stringing him along. On the night Grady finally decides to confess his feelings to Eli at a party, Eli shows up with a man he introduces as his fiance. Grady is crushed and all his friends know it because he has been lousy at hiding those feelings. Fortunately, one of his real friends is Rome who has had a crush on Grady that rivals Grady's on Eli. He steps in at Grady's lowest emotional moment, kisses him and lets everyone know they are in a relationship. News to Grady, lol, but he decides to go along. As news of the pretend relationship spreads, the two guys play along and as one expects in a friends to lovers, fake boyfriend story the fiction becomes real. I found these two characters and their friends believable and likable (other than Eli - hisss/boo) and completely bought into the development of Grady's and Rome's relationship into a real one. The angst quota is light, the two MCs belong together and the HEA arrives as expected. A very enjoyable read during this stressful time. Austin Jay gives a wonderful performance here. I read the book before listening to the audio and with his performance I noticed things I hadn't noticed when I read in terms of emotional nuances.

Characters seem much younger/less mature than ages

Overall, I liked this book and the romance between Grady and Roman. However, the characters seemed more like they were in their 20's rather than in their 30's, not mature at all, especially at the birthday party. I might expect behavior like this (manipulation, jealousy, intentionally hurting others, pettiness) from people fresh out of high school and starting college, but I would hope they'd have matured by the time they reach their 30's, especially as a corporate CEO. Also, although the culmination and changes were sweet, I had a hard time buying Eli's sudden metamorphosis. The authors did too good a job making him into a selfish prick for me to believe in the new man. Still, I loved most of the characters, especially the giving and supportive Caldwell family. Even Roman's parents, although gone, were so clearly described as loving and caring. Grady was a bit too naive and forgiving, but I loved him anyway.

The narration was good and the character voices really fit their mental and emotional feelings and ages (which again seemed much younger than their actual ages). The narrator really captured the angst and emotion.

Great triangle story

I really enjoyed this story. It’s more than a friends to. This is about three guys that have known each other a long time and while one guy is insufferable, Eli, Gray has been infatuated with him about forever. Eli is so self centered that even though he knows about Grady’s feelings he stays focused on him first always. Rome the third friend has been focused on Grady just about as long. While Rome saves Grady an embarrassing situation, it doesn’t take long for Grady and Rome to have to address what is between them. I love triangle stories where I can enjoy the ones that get together. The narrator, Austin Jay does a great job at bring these characters to life. I was given a copy from GRR and this is my opinion.
