About this listen

Brought to you by Penguin.

The empowering, inspiring, patriarchy-smashing first book by the TikTok and Spotify star Drew Afualo.

Drew Afualo is best known as the internet’s 'Crusader for Women' and is at the head of a new generation of entertainment’s rising stars, with more than nine million followers across her social platforms. She soon realized that men on social media were creating sexist content aimed at disparaging women, and also containing rampant fatphobia, racism, and other forms of bigotry with very real-life consequences. It didn’t take long for her to step into the role of unofficial watchdog for misogyny, and her signature laugh is now recognized as a feminist call to arms.

Loud is part manual, part manifesto and part memoir. It is a summoning cry to rid the internet (and our hearts, minds, and lives) of terrible men and create a space to fight outdated patriarchal ideals. Above all, it makes it clear that behind Drew’s fearsome laugh is a mission and a life philosophy, a strategy for self-confidence from the inside out, and a pathway to once and for all remove men from the centre of how women and fems think about themselves.

Girl where do I start!? Context: I’m a 32 year old mother, queer and a feminist surrounded by sexist bigots in Australia

I already knew Drew was going to leave her mark on humanity and oh my goodness this just proves it.

The way Drew speaks about her parents, her experience being parented and how that led to who she is today made me realise what type of parent I want to be. Honest, patient, kind, ruthless when it comes to my child and families wellbeing.

The way Drew tells stories, explains her beliefs and points of view is done in such a deeply emotionally intelligent way. I aspire to speak the way Drew does. She is kind and open but she is also firm and to the point.

This book touches mostly on the way women and fem’s experience this world made for straight, white, cis men, but I DONT CARE who you are… read it! Honestly you should read this ESPECIALLY if you are a straight, white, cis man!!! Put in the time.

This was so easy to consume because she makes it enjoyable, emotional, witty, funny and at times heartbreakingly vulnerable. Especially when talking about pregnancy/wanting a family and her sisters coming out story.

I could go on and on but I’ll stop now and end with this.. READ IT!!!!! 😂 I laughed, cried, ground my teeth in anger at terrible men!!! It was f*cking amazing xx

Listen to/read this! No matter who you are or where you are in life

i didnt know what i was expecting when i bought this book but im glad i did. alot of the concepts shes discussed arent new, but her critique of misogny, bigotry and patriarchy is new and refreshing. i love how she relates misogyny to a womans perception of herself and the world around her; as well as how she relates patriarchal ideals to the physical world and how we live. i knew Drew was funny and entertaining, but this book shows how relatable she is. equipping women with the tools we need to stand up... even if we stand alone. if theres one thing ive learnt from this book, it is to hold yourself accountable. Thank you Drew. Alofa Atu.

To listen to this facet of Drew, was an unexpected gift. Her insight and commentary to navigating the world as a woman or fem, felt like a warm embrace from an older sister. I found simultaneously comfort and assurance, that so much of our experience is a collective one (and in that we are not alone), as well as the reminder that we are all powerful beyond measure. From one daughter of the Pacific to another - Drew you make me feel so proud and so seen. Fa’amalo atu, you deserve every success.

A beautiful insight into the backstory of our reigning queen. Lots of vulnerable moments and great life lessons for young people trying to navigate the world through the grips of the patriarchy

Thank you so much Drew!!! The past few years I have been struggling with things I couldn’t fully articulate and you have validated my experience through your vulnerability. I have finished this book now with a new hope and courage going out in the world, that I can advocate for myself. I now know I deserve respect, my comfort and feelings are just as if not more important than a man’s particularly a misogynist. Thank you!
