Publisher's Summary

In July 1973, Bob Tininenko, his wife Linda, and his brother in-law Jim Fisher set sail from Tacoma, Washington, on a 31-foot trimaran, down the West Coast to Costa Rica. The journey was expected to take a matter of weeks, but 10 days into the cruise, the party encountered a freak storm off the coast of Northern California. When gale-force winds and 50-foot waves capsized their boat, the voyage became a nightmare.

For 72 days, the trio was lost at sea. Challenged by nature and compromised by a bitter rivalry, their courage and will to live was put to the ultimate test. Jim, the owner and skipper of the boat, was a devout fundamentalist whose recognition of God's will in every event brought him into increasing conflict with his brother-in-law. As the two men battled to take control of a dire situation, Linda kept a secret that would lead to heartrending tragedy.

A "hair-raising" (Houston Chronicle) account of shipwreck and survival and a searing portrait of faith without reason, Lost! is an unforgettable true story from "a writer of tremendous power and achievement" (Detroit Free Press).

this book was WAY over the top with religion.

Narration was horrible. All the wonderful narrators to choose from, there were much better options. I'm a Christian, I believe in the power of prayer but I was beyond frustrated with "Jim"...it was just too much. I felt like punching him almost the entire book.
A lot of the book was unbelievable as well. For example, lost at sea, legs full of sores desperate for rescue but the female character applies her make up every morning?!?!?! sorry I call BS!

Amazing. sad. intense

As we watch or read fiction we expect a happy ending. You forget this is a true story. although not the perfect ending. It's real and shows what 3 people in the same situation can end up with 3 different out comes.

Another outstanding true story by Thomas Thompson

Audible, thank you for adding this - perhaps in response to my email? Please do your readers the great service of producing ALL of this late great journalist/author’s works. The other two available on Audible (Serpentine [!!] and Blood and Money - also true stories) are off-the-charts good. I have everything by him on Kindle and would love to see (hear:) them on Audible. Thank you!

Inspiring and troubling

Thomas Thompson is always the master of digging into an understanding of humans being human.

What is there to say about 72 days of forced inactivity on a mostly-foundered boat in the ocean? In fact, the thoughts, words and actions of the three people trapped on the upside-down Triton trimaran prompt many questions, about our own deepest selves, as well as about these people and their situation.

The mysteries of what was really happening on the distressed boat blend with the inevitable question, "What would I have done in that situation?"

Like the three on board, everyone who reads this book brings along their own beliefs, motivations and personal baggage. It's a moving, well-crafted, if sometimes disturbing read. Recommended for those who make it a point to spend time examining their own insights into themselves.

The narrator was tolerable. His style was a bit pedagogic, and I didn't think it reflected Thompson's writing style or message that well. But it didn't detract from the story, for me.

Horrific Lost-at-Sea Misadventure

Two men and one woman set sail on a small trimaran but a fierce storm damages and capsizes the vessel. This true story reveals the horrendous multi-month struggle to survive what befell the trio: they were forced to exist on minimal provisions and scant drinking water in an upside down partially submerged battered cabin. The tale has twists and turns right through to the final chapter. Will any of those afloat survive the ordeal and if so, how many? Three or two or one or none? Read this account to find out...

Robot Narrater

The story is thrilling, knowing that it is true especially. The narrater turned me off and I had to power through the first half of the book until I got used to his monotone readings. Overall I do recommend.
