About this listen

When the lights go out, how far will you go to survive?

When an EMP devastates the nation's power supply, it doesn't take long for society to spiral out of control. There is no government to guide people. There is no power and no order. Only chaos and panic.

In the immediate aftermath of the devastation, five survivors-a self-sufficient survivalist, a university student, a plane crash survivor, a young girl, and an escaped prisoner-all face a dangerous, treacherous journey towards safety.

But as the day goes on and tensions reach breaking point, our survivors soon realize this solar event is far more dangerous than they could ever have imagined...

Lights Out is the first book in the Surviving the EMP post apocalyptic series chronicling five very different survivors and the way they handle disaster. If you enjoy stories of ordinary people thrown into devastating new circumstances, you'll love Lights Out.

As an Aussie when I hear “bloke” & “mate” said with an American accent it just sounds weird.
I love idea of the story but it’s really underdeveloped.

Not quite right

This storyline had a lot of potential to be developed and fleshed out quite heavily but it feels as though it has been rushed. The narration leaves a lot to be desired as well.

Underwhelming and dry

British book. American narrator. Just WRONG! Too much introspection. Too many blackouts. Too many impossible coincidences.

While the story is not groundbreaking it was still enjoyable and is easy to get attached to the characters.

Easy listening - escapism

Loved the story hope to listen more of it. Sound like in 2024 we might found ourself in a similar situation.

I grew to detest everything about it. I might try reading the book, or just leave it.

An American narration of an book based in England is confusing and a bit bizarre.

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Firstly, the book is set in the UK but the narrator has an American accent.

The story itself doesn't even conclude. It is like the author just stopped writing half way through the story.

Also, one third of the book is just a rehash of each character's inner turmoil every time the view switches to a new character.

Don't bother

I wanted to like this book but I struggled with the narrator’s boring voice. The story was long and boring.

Not much to be honest

Something went wrong. Please try again in a few minutes.

Had so much potential but was not worth it in the end. The American narrator trying to speak like a Brit did my head in.

Not great
