Publisher's Summary

Susan and Carlos were unlikely friends. She was a young, overweight college professor and a bit of a trainwreck - juggling a divorce, a pack-a-day habit, and hiding empty boxes of wine under her bed. He was her boss, an Ironman triathlete, with life figured out. She was a whiner, he was a hard-ass. He had his shit together, she most assuredly did not.

Trash-talking workouts, breakdowns, a devastating diagnosis - this heartwarming story of training buddies reveals a deep and abiding friendship that traversed life, sport, and everything in between. Their journey reveals the inspiring power of sports and friendship to change lives forever.

Amusing and poignant, Life's Too Short to Go So F--king Slow is about running and triathlon, growth and heartbreak, and an epic friendship that went the distance.

Positive tale but too many unexplored themes

Had great hope for this book to inspire me. The story of friendship, one man's grit and his best friends hidden 'f#ck ups' was a hook enough. As a repeat offender myself, I understood. The book however leaves so many themes untouched. It glossed over major life events that had previously been the major focus for the author. Case in point, author suddenly has new boyfriend, relationship struggles, surprise author suddenly has alcoholism and like some sort of all knowing Yoda her cancer battling BFF appears, discovers her secret, active alcoholism apparently lasted another 2-years before sobriety but not discussed beyond 'it lasted 2-,years' but they kept cycling mountains, literally. Similiarly, in one line we discover the boyfriend who dropped out of her narrative is now her husband. Ummmmm???? when did that happen???? Way too short. I'd thought from reviews the size wouldn't matter, I'd get my monthly fill in a small package. Not so 😪

Don't be put off by the title!

When I saw the title I thought this was another author who has jumped on the "f***ked bandwagon.
I decided to listen and was blown away by both the content and the narrator.
This is a great book. Bought me to tears, made me smile and almost made me cheer out loud. I did an Ironman 8 years ago and since then have let things slip in every way. This book has motivated me to stop going so f*cking slow!!
Highly recommend.

Great story, and very well written. It will inspire you not to do an Ironman but to be a nice person to others.

Nice (auto)triography

Nice relaxed story about a young woman discovering endurance and tri thanks to a ( to become ) best friend. The friend has a lot of love for the sport, hence wisdom to share. Allin all More about the friendship than tri , i found this audiobook great for relaxed commuting and you’ll pickup some endurancesport attitudeboosters too.

Not your average running book

This was a short but outstanding book. This was so much more than just a book about running. It was wonderfully told and you will find yourself becoming very invested in the story. One of the best books I have listened to in some time.

The subtitle says it all.

A great personal story of friendship with Ironman running integrated into the narrative. I love stories of strength in the face of adversity. This is a good one. IF you aare a runner or biker and like good biographies that share personal stories this is a must read.

easy listen. makes me want to sign up for triathlon, not so sure about an ironman. more of a best-friend-love story than a book about triathlons

Inspiring how one person can change a life

When I first started listening the narrator's voice really grated on me. However, I persevered and I gradually got sucked into the story and got hooked.

As I had never read what the book was about (other than cycling) it was a shock when the story took a sudden turn. This only made we want to listen more and hope that all would work out good.

I have to say that, for someone who is not known to be a softy, I found there to be some very touching moments in the later chapters.

Hilarious. Heart breaking. Human

I’ve never enjoyed an audio book as much as I enjoyed this. If you’re a sports addict, a tentative triathlete or someone who just wants to hear an honest account for relationships through sport, this is everything.

Inspiring and emotional ride

I don’t really want to say too much about the story here because it’s rare that a non fiction offers such a surprising narrative.

What I will say is that it was really touching and showed how accessible and transformative endurance sport can be.

The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was that there were some unresolved questions about the relationship between the author, her friend and his family which I felt could have been explored. There were plenty of other difficult situations discussed.

Another ironman book but with a difference

I love triathlon and I've been through many books about people doing Ironman/Triathlon. most are a bit formulaic (setback then training then grueling but inevitably successful ironman). This was beautifully different, this book was so much more. I won't try to explain why for spoilers but this book is really special and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
