About this listen

Nell Gallows is the sole survivor of an elite dark forces squad, Riøt, after a detrimental attack two years ago.

Unsurprisingly, she's being put up as the top candidate for the special ops team Malum, the squad that goes where no one else will or can. There's only one problem: Malum blames their one casualty from the Patagonia mission on the Riøt squad.

So what is she to do when she finds herself on a plane to California and on her way to a sure death sentence? A one-night stand. At least, that's all it was supposed to be—one last night to be free. Only, she finds out too late that the dark and mysterious man she solely wanted as a fling is not only her new comrade but also the one she dreaded meeting most—her immediate superior and untouchable devil in the field. Bones.

He's hell on earth—cruel and unforgiving, but most of all, he hates her, and he makes sure she knows it. And yet, she finds herself unwilling to leave his side when he's unable to get to the evac point when their mission goes awry.

She stays behind with the devil and the secrets he keeps. They only have one another to trust when no faith is left.

Loved the story line and the characters!
I think it would’ve been better in duet style instead of dual narrators but it was otherwise a great listen!

Great story

- bit of background noise on the audio, and swallowing and saliva noises that were a bit annoying but overall great

Dark, twisted beautiful

Band of brothers finally get the girl. Hardships of all types are resolved but in a way I did not expect. No one came away unscathed and collateral damage was huge however it finished one a happy situation. Oh and my eyes are sore from crying.

Brilliant

She stays behind with the devil and the secrets he keeps. They only have one another to trust when no faith is left.

I listened to this on audio, narrated by Isabelle Turner and Walker Williams, and they pulled me straight into the grit of it. This was my first K. M. Moronova book and it definitely won’t be my last.
Nell, Bunny, and Bradshaw, Bones, absolutely have my heart. Their story hits that space where sacrifice, loyalty and something almost feral start to twist together. It is messy and brutal and strangely hopeful in the darkest way. The military edge and the constant tension gave everything this razor sharp pull that kept me listening.
I know the ending divided readers and I fully understand why, but I actually appreciated that it did not follow a predictable route. It felt honest to the world and the characters, even if it ruffled feathers.

Tropes:
- Dark romance
- Enemies to lovers
- Morally grey MMC & FMC
- Military romance
- Dual POV
- Bully romance
- Plot twist ending

She stays behind with the devil

Leave Me Behind completely blindsided me in the best possible way. I went in expecting a solid military dark romance and came out emotionally wrecked by one of the most powerful stories I’ve read this year.

The writing is exceptional; taut, emotional, and deeply immersive. Nell is the kind of FMC I live for: strong, defiant, and resilient, yet vulnerably human. Bones is her perfect dark mirror, a broken, dangerous man waving every red flag imaginable, but with layers that make you ache for him.

Their relationship is raw, volatile, and heartbreakingly real. The plot’s complexity, the emotional beats, and the character development all come together flawlessly.

The dual narration is phenomenal, though honestly, a full duet would have elevated it even more — the story deserves that level of performance. This is the kind of book that stays with you long after the final word. Absolutely stunning.
